Looking at used ATV’s

And I just can’t bring myself to even consider one with a snorkel. Is this irrational?
Also, Yamaha make a decent bike? Grew up. On Hondas better prices on Yamahas

Not at all. I assume the bikes with snorkels have been road hard and put up wet.

Absolutely not. I am the same way. The best is when they have snorkel and big sound tube, but then put on the description that it was barely rode and always easy. You put a snorkel on it for one reason only and that is to ride through deep mud and water.

If it is cheap and you wanna rag it out (more) then why not. However, a snorkel is a pretty good sign it's been ragged out and probably sunk. Not always but that is how I have always thought.
ETA: I do not know if it is my age showing but I keep seeing kids riding bikes around town with pvc pipes attached to the frame of the bicycle sticking up above the handle bars like a snorkel. Guess so they dont flood their bicycle brakes.

Yes, Yamaha makes good machines.

What’s the going price for a mint 2008 Honda foreman 500 w nice aftermarket rims and tires?
Posted on 4/16/23 at 8:44 am to Chad504boy
Just sold a mint 2013 foreman 500 with original tires and 1000 miles on it for $5k if that helps

I wouldn't buy one with a snorkel either unless it was sub 1k. Yamaha grizzly is a beast of a machine.

Seeing em between $4-4500. Grizzlies are $3500-4 for a good bit newer.
Appreciate the replies.

I have 2 Yamahas and 1 Honda. All of them are around 20 years old, and the Yamahas have held up just as well as the Honda.
I don’t think you can go wrong with either one.

When I sold my Honda Rancher a few years ago - all original including tires - I got hammered with calls. Everyone knows to look for original tires, no lift kit, new rims, snorkel etc. those are keys signs of a bike that has likely been ridden hard

Yamaha's are awesome.
Parts are just a little higher as there are less of them available.
Especially if shopping the used/secondary market.
I'd buy one without hesitation if the deal was there.

Add the relocated radiator to the list. That's another red flag for me.

I would never buy an ATV that has/had a snorkel. Also, I don’t want one ridden by anyone under the age of 30.
Ideally I want one owned by an old man who used it to drive around the farm and to/from the deer stand. Especially if they are looking at upgrading to a SxS because it’s easier to get in/off of.

I treat my bikes like an adult should. A used bike that’s been snorkeled has I high chance of being worked way harder than I’d like.
I just bought a used ATV and am selling my UTV.
The first thing I tell potential buyers is that this bike has been cared for and serviced annually.
Never stuck. Never sunk.
Good luck!

Exactly! That’s actually my mindset as well.

Man your old guys are different from ours.
Once a year one of the old timers comes limping limping back into the camp yard blowing white smoke saying "I think I got some water in the exhaust"
No... You got pancake batter in your motor.
I miss the old hondas that were easy to flush.

i just got out of my lease due to increased costs
My atv has original tires, never put through mud or snorkeled or anything stupid. low miles and hours. only used 2 months out the year on weekends on established trails.
its a rancher 2015. looks like i might be able to get close to what i paid for it.
