Do any of ya'll have a log book for your boat or hunting camp?

I just started one @ the beginning of the season for the new boat. Documenting weather, haul, and other nonsense entries. It's been pretty neat to flip back and see what the first few hunts were like. I bought cheap-arse pleather, mole-skin rip off which lives in the console in a ziplock bag.

I've been to some camps with some huge, bossed out, leather bound journals that are far older than myself.

I used to do a good job of keeping up with each of my fishing trips. I've got about 10 years worth of data, but I've gotten lax the last couple of years. My Dad has several decades of notes on all of the local lakes at different times of the year. It's pretty awesome to be able to look back at what was going on at a given lake 20 or 30 years ago.

I don't, but know people that do. It's a good idea.

We used to keep one for our lease, stored in a waterproof container at the entrance. Started out as a serious effort to track the number of birds shot. After about a year, it turned into a "who can make up the stupidest thing to write about contest". There were some funny write ups over the last 2 years.

I have one dating back to when I was ten. Pretty cool to look at duck hunting as a kid vs an adult. Also my memories of baiting ponds, picking up bait, hiding ducks and geese, etc...

Nothing I am proud of now but it's always fun to look back at stuff like that when I didn't know better.

I tell myself I'm going to do it every year but I never do. I never make the time.

I just started doing this. Mainly for coyote hunting so I can remember the call sequences I used so I can try to learn the patterns that work the best.

For those looking electronically, DU has a pretty good app for documenting waterfowl hunts. Been using it the last two years.

I log all fishing trips. Ma boy squid bait took them and put results into an excel sheet.

There was this software called FishBase, basically a database where you could log boat maint, reel maint, fishing trips with various conditions like tide, salinity, wind, location, baits, etc. Then you could run searches on based on multiple conditions.

I think Terrafin made it, but I can't find it online anymore. If someone has some database knowledge, you could probably create something similar.

Great idea and fun to go back and review. Get you some write in the rain paper - will hold up better in my opinion. Have fun with it!

I my outings while I'm sitting in meetings at work. It has definitively come in handy already, particularly with regards to fishing. I'm waiting for duck hunting to get the same results.

I don't, but I sure wish I had started this when I was young...what a wonderful thing to be able to go back through and remember when you get too old to hunt and fish...

We have logs going back 40 years.
Nice to make a tally at the end of the year and see who caught the most bass.

Yep. Got a book at the camp. But we only remember to right in it every other trip. I have been writing my trip catches this year in my office though. I have kept over 500 fish this year since May

Dad and I have a log book starting in 88 and we have kept one ever year since then for our hunts. The best part is after long periods of time these little entries remind you of a hunt you'd have never remembered without it. Especially when you are younger. Also me and dad write a nice little summation of the previous year at the beginning of the next. Crazy to see the hurricane years and the pain and hard work we did to get back to square 1

I have been wanting to get one for the Father-in-law fishing camp. Anyone have a link or brand recommendation? It would be a birthday present so I want something a little nicer than a college rule notebook.

I agree about looking back especially with kids. Mine started in 1978 as a nine year old. Watching through my eyes as they have changed over the years is pretty neat. Would post some of the early ones for Yall to read but they involve what was common back then no regard for the laws. I really enjoy reading them.

For those with kids make a log and get your kids input on the entries every time. Will make for something really special 20-30 years later.
