TV show on Nat Geo.. are there no game laws for these people? First episode I watched they shot geese (looked to be specks) on a pond with 22s. Next they ran up on caribou with motorboat shot and speared caribou from the boat while circling them up in the middle of the water.. they killed 6 I think there were 4 or 5 people in boat. One had a gun and one had spear other two or three just watched.

I get it.. I probably wouldn’t follow laws up there because I like to eat. (Not many stores up there) but being it’s on tv I would think they would be more careful and atleast not shoot waterfowl with a 22.

So if Louisiana laws applied they would be looking a tickets for..
Hunting waterfowl with 22
Shooting a gun with boat in motion
Over the daily bag limit assuming u can kill 1 per person per day.
Running a tiller handle boat without life jacket
And I’m sure I’m missing something else

The family in those clips is Inupiat, so traditional game laws don't apply to them.

If that’s true they should make them use traditional Inuit hunting tactics not motor boat round ups and shooting geese from 80 yards with 22s.

In Alaska, natives and people who live in certain rural areas have subsistence rights. You can hunt game of fish as you need

Interesting. Not the native part but others living in rural areas. Are there specific boundaries or something like that where anything goes?

I've heard many of the other people profiled on the show say quite often that they only have x amount of days left to the moose season in order to get one for a winter meat source. Same with some of the shows where they are fishing and catch their daily limit of salmon, especially King Salmon. Those salmon they all seem to use for dog food must have no limit because the big fish wheels they use to harvest them work 24/7----but only during the "official fishing season" and there is a time limit for them to be out in the rivers.

So they do have some guidelines, limits and seasons.

There’s an Indian reservation in Canada where spotlighting is legal for deer for the locals.

Operation of a tiller handle, regardless of boat size requires the operator to wear a life jacket and have a kill switch connected to them and the motor.

Depends on the area. Most people still have to follow game regulations but there are exceptions.

That's a rough life to live when you have to provide everything for yourself. They make it look easy, but we don't see the times when they strikeout and are starving. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the way they live, but I like going to Walmart where I know they have everything I need in one location!
