Let's talk AK's

I'm looking at a Romanian one. My thinking is great hurricane gun, beat it up and it works. Ammo is cheap and even when ammo was scarce, 7.62x39 was still available at Academy. Thoughts on price points, which ones, etc from you fellow OBers please.

Buy a cheap WASR one for $500.
I doubt there is much reliability difference between a $500 one and a $1000 one.

buy cheap but give it a once over. Make sure the sights are straight and action works.
From there you can sand the wood and re finish it.

Unless you're going to be a full-time operator in the middle east, just get a WASR. I got a few of them ($300 each) for all the kids when they're grown. Unfortunately they all got lost in the boating accident.
When we had them, we fired many rounds through them and not a one of them ever had a single malfunction. One of my boys got his first deer with one.

I recently bought an Arsenal SAM7R-61 Bulgarian Milled AK-47 for $1200. I highly recommend you looking at an Arsenal--they are built like tanks. I enjoy shooting my Arsenal AK even more than my Colt M4 because a 1000rds of 7.62x39 is only $250.

Thanks guys. I'm looking at a WASR and the cheapest I can find is $675. Seems like $800 is average price right now.

I have an arsenal Slr-95 and a Romanian under folder and both go bang every time. The arsenal is by far the nicer and more accurate gun but I also bought it in 98 when they were $365 you really can't go wrong with an AK they are great weapons

if you can find an amd-65 ak variant grab one. they were pretty cheap before the latest gun scare. my favorite of my 5 aks.
