Half mutt chocolate lab and half champion pit on the left. Mom is a show dog for my attorney's wife. Dad was a mutt chocolate lab who cleared a 10ft stone wall for some pussy. He's watching the very quiet pack of coyotes in the back pasture.
Right is a golden retriever that cost more than my golf cart.
He's oblivious.

Just curious, what is the lifespan of hunting dogs(i don't hunt, just fish) vs if they didn't hunt?
A guy i talked who duck hunts, said his dogs may live on average 7/8 yrs. I asked why, he said because of the work(wear and tear) load of hunting for a dog. This guy said he hunts with 2 dogs now every hunt. They take turns. It was hard to understand on my part about the shorten lives of hunting dogs. Is this a thing? Dogs seems to love doing what they do. Are the physical vigors of doing what hunting dogs do, curb their lifespans?
In the hunting dog world, you can get a lot of inbred dogs which end up with lots of problems. Also, if a dog tears it's ACL, you can pay $3000 to fix it, or euthanize the dog. I can see how the lifespan is lower than a typical domestic dog.

Is he a guide?
My oldest is 10 and he’s still hunting, although his workload will be reduced. The duck migration has also helped give him a reduced workload over the last 5 years, but he picked up a lot of ducks his first 5.
He also sleeps inside, gets regular exercise, and eats high dollar dog food.

Wish I had pics of the Yorkie we had, she was the best deer tracking dog I've ever seen. She wasn't fast enough to run off but had the desire to please my wife or I. Her only goal was to do what we wanted and get a piece of jerky for doing a great job.

Or you can fix a spot near the fire and let him live out his life in peace and companionship. Millions of dogs running around with torn ACLs. They're not horses

My cousin in Va Beach has the same breed and she will go four feet deep in the marsh to pull Out a brick of you ask her to.

I really like them. Smart. Hard hunting. Tough as nails. They are mostly black and tan, she is a red head.
If your thinking about one, you won’t be disappointed.
