There are so many different options out there for different reels and applications...I'm not too picky but I feel like I should be..

What are you using for your trout rigs?

What about redfish? Bull reds?

What's your go to Mono, Fluoro, braid?

What pound test are you most comfortable with?

All my inshore stuff is rigged with 30# PowerPro or 30# Finns braid.

Leader is 15# or 20# mono.

SeaGaur Fluoro on all except cork and topwater rods. I was using braid for those 2 but kept getting knots so went back to mono.

30 pound power pro with Fluro leader for salt. Fresh heavy power pro braid on frog rod, fluro for any worm, jig, creature bait and mono for top water and spinner bait. Mono is suffix or stren, Seagar Fluro and power pro for braid.

Trout/Reds: 30lb braid, 30lb flouro leader. I've landed some over slot reds on it with no issues though.

Bull Reds: Not that I use that rig very often but it's got 50lb braid and a 50lb leader.

Either Fins Windtamer or Power Pro. I've been satisfied with both.

20lb daiwa x8 braid, 15lb seaguar fluoro leader for my soft plastics. I use light jig heads(1/8-3/16) so the smaller diameter line helps me get more distance.

30lb braid with 20lb mono leader for mirrOlures and top water.

Daiwa J8, 20lb for inshore and bass. I despise the tip-wraps that braid is prone to, but I like all the other aspects enough to deal with them.

I've gone to braided line on everything.

I've tried a lot of brands, and finally decided to stick with Spider Wire. Minimum I use is 30#, max is 50#. I have more reels filled with 50# than any other weight.

Great answers so far fellas...keep them coming. this is what I was looking for

i've been fishing for a very long time and I only really concentrated on my gear, rods and reels and tackle....my lines not so much...I just realized last weekend that I've got to up my line game

I've used it all, braid, mono, fluro...it just never mattered..I just bought or used what I had in my box.

Need to start paying more attention

Trilene mono on all.

17# on the big stick. (Rare use, vacation to beach or inlaws lake house with big cats, striper)

#14 on the baitcaster. 10% of my use.

10# on the med-light spinning rig. 10% of my use.

4# on the ultralight. 79% of my use.

25# flouro leader for the big rig, bargain brand, not trilene.

I have some suffix braid 6# equivalent on another ultralight but it just doesn't cast light weight like mono, even with small diameter. Also doesn't do slip bobbers as well as mono. Also a bitch to break off snags.

On an eggbeater Power Pro #30 with and sometimes without a #17-20 Trilene big game mono leader.
Or straight #17 Big Game mono

On a baitcaster #50 or #65 PowerPro with or without a #17-20 Big Game leader.
Or straight #17 Big Game

not really as long as long as you don't go full retard. Never go full retard

Reasons I've been whipped on the same fish
Bait choice or retrieve? yeah.
Bait color? yeah
Boat positioning? yeah
Line choice? not yet

I won't say it doesn't matter at all, but line choice is way, way down the list on whether or not a person catches fish. Most of it is personal preference.

thats kinda where I am....line choice is at the bottom of my list as well....but for some reason I had a bad night the other night and on the boat ride home I was doing some thinking and I came to conclusion that I need to pay more attention to my line

I know it sounds stupid but it's one of those things

agreed..thank you for reassuring me that I havent been missing out on something that I should be paying more attention to

Im a lazy fisherman when it comes to line...but im on point when it comes to rod, reels, bait, tides, weather, wind, water color, moon, etc...I a little bit obsessed with that shite

I have some friends I fish with are just the complete opposite.

Line choice is way down the list, but I'm 100% convinced that if you are going to use braid for inshore you will catch more fish using a fluoro leader. More bites and a better chance to land the fish.

My friend who is an inshore guide on the Atlantic, has been for 20+ years, uses flouro leader on every rod on the boat (Braid main lines). He doesn't have to. Most clients wouldn't know the difference. He could save time and money by not doing it. But he still does it, so that speaks volumes to me. And it's not usually clear water either, he still does it.
