I dropped off a pintail to the taxidermist yesterday, and I'm not completely sure on what position to have him mounted. I'm leaning toward the flying position, so you can see his full back, neck and head. I've never had a duck mounted, so I'm looking for suggestions.

Show me some of your duck mounts. Hell, show me any of your mounts. It doesn't have to be ducks, I like seeing any mounts.

This one doesn't do the pose much justice, but I like the preening mounts on pintails to highlight the back/wing feathers.

I love wood ducks. If I killed a perfect one, it'd be hard for me to not get it mounted.

Here are a couple of mine. I also have a few pheasants mounted and a bird at the taxi right now. I had a dedicated taxidermy thread on here a few years ago but it’s probably a bunch of broken links now with the photobucket sharing issues.

Yeah, I searched a little, but didn't come up with much.

The more I see the strap mount, the more I like it, but I'm only doing a single bird. Those are nice though I brought mine to Matthew Courville, here in Carencro. Didn't read any negative reviews, but those reviews could very well be cooked reviews for all I know.

ETA: While I was there, I looked around at the ones he had there, and I'll admit, I don't even begin to know what to look for other than the looks of the mount, so I can't tell you if his work will hold up for years or not. But I can tell you they sure looked nice

If I can get my hands on a few birds I’m gonna try to start doing a little bit on my own this spring. I’ve talked to countless taxi guys locally and on the internet and have gotten some pretty valuable info to feel comfortable getting started. I need birds though

ETA: Matt does some really good work. I’ve chatted with him before

Been wanting to get a mount done recently. What’s your process for getting it to the taxidermist? Anything not to do as far as putting it in the cooler? Similar to deer and just wrap it in a bag and keep water off of it? Thanks for any help.
