I've tried all of the chews that are supposed to help breath but he just seems to hold on to a fishy odor and nothing seems to make it better. I've even tried the probiotic powder added to his food. Any ideas what this could be?

Is there a bunch of plaque buildup? Have you tried brushing his teeth?

They make tooth paste for dogs that tastes like chicken/beef so they can swallow it. Check your local pet store or order online

I'll have to check when we get back home after this weekend, but brushing helps a ton for our little rescue mutt. His breath smelled like pogie oil. It was bad.

I have two labs, an 11 year old and a 3 year old. The 11 year old has pretty bad breath. His teeth look cleaner than the 3 year old’s. They’ve been raised the same way and eat the same food. I don’t know what it is but I just enjoy it while I can.

Dog teeth are like people teeth, some just have terrible teeth that need annual cleaning. $150 and have vet clean on an annual basis so your dog lives longer. Poor dental health human/k9 shortens their live.
If you’re a tight arse buy a plaque scaler and scrape the plaque off periodically. Plaque is causing the shite smell on your dogs breath.

It’s a crapshoot. I’ve had two yellows with not bad breath and current yellow‘s breath always smells worse than the dumpster at a shrimp processing plant in August.

Let the Vet sedate him and clean his teeth.

Or dog had awful breath when we first got it. We tried a lot of things.

Switched good to blue buffalo and it went away over night. Somebody told me to try another food due to possible digestion bubbling up.

I'll order that shite if I have to. I never want to go back to what she had going on.

Maybe worth a shot.

Had this situation with our dog, ended up being a piece of stick lodged in her throat that had gotten covered in plaque. No other signs, breathing was fine, no distress that we could tell. Vet got it out pretty easily, solved problem

I’d get its teeth checked. Had a pup w/ foul breath and it ended up being plaque like others said and a couple of bad teeth.
