He was 11 in this pic I believe.. He was beautiful when he was younger

Wow... That's MY ideal look and color of a golden retriever... I know that not everyone likes the deep red, but I find it 'majestic' so to speak

I'm trying to find pics of my old baw from when he was younger, he looked just like yours

According to their website it looks like the breeder in Amite is charging over $1500 for pups. Does that sound right?

Probably so, we picked out ours in December 2014, picked up at end of January 2015. He was in a price hike at that time but we got grandfathered in to previous price since we had a deposit down and were on the waiting list (waiting for a dark batch).

So, would you attempt to sell lab/ golden mix puppies for anything? If so how much, $100? Both parents are papered and hunt if that makes a difference...

That's some funny shite. Obviously there was some doubt about the father beforehand?

Yep. Short backstory:

I have a black lab and a golden retriever. Both males. Both fetch birds and track deer. The lab very skilled at both. The Golden not too shabby. My dad, who does not have the dog speaking gene, gets a highly papered gyp Golden and sends it off to get trained. She's a good pedigree and turns into a fine retriever. But her 8 months at the trainer turns her into a kennel rocket and not the house dog they thought they had. So he gives her to me to keep up with. Now I have a male golden and a black lab and a gyp golden...She comes in heat. I think I catch it in time and move her to a friend down the road to let his super papered stud Golden male service the Gyp. And they hook up. I seent it. Left her there 10 days after the fact just to make sure. But apparently before that my black lab, tags that arse. The end result is 3 blacks, 5 darker reds, and 2 whites. All healthy and awesome. Good times.

In general, you will pay more for a golden than a lab, especially out of health certified field lines. I realize the OP is looking for more of a "pet", but IMO, if you're buying a dog, at least get a field bred Golden. It cost just as much to feed and vet a boot licker as a decently bred field dog, so if you do decide to hunt the dog, at least you have something to work with.

I would give serious consideration to Manchac Man's litter announcements and offers, if his stud has advanced hunt test titles. Good field Goldens are as rare as unicorns and are a beautiful thing to watch (I run field trials with my labs).

Don't know about the others but Grindol's will have OFA certified hips and elbows, eyes and hearts also cleared by specialists in those areas. Good breeders and good people.

Cancer in pretty common in Goldens. Don't think it matters who the breeder is, it happens.

Everything he said is 100% spot on. If you want a solid field bred golden, you're going to pay. I have a topbrass pup and she's just as awesome in the marsh as she is at the house. I know it's not a Louisiana litter and every dog is different, but after working with her, I don't know that I'll ever have a dog from somewhere else. She's my best friend for sure.

True, I hardly ever see Goldens run in hunt tests much either however, I saw a damn good looking Golden running in Started at the hunt test in NE LA back in the Spring.

Do you have any pictures of the golden/lab mixes now that they’re grown? I’m curious to see how they turned out.
