How many bears are we trying to have in this state?
Posted on 8/6/13 at 9:04 am to Tigerpaw123
Were they counted before or after the big I-49 bear slaughter of 2012?

I agree. This one decided to just lay under my feeder. He did finally get tired of waiting for the feeder to throw more food and knocked it down and ripped the top off of it. This is in Oak Grove, La.

well no shite Sherlock.
Way to only quote the part of my statement that suits you. You left out the part where I said that:

It has to be higher. 500 is probably a very good estimate.
What is the point of posting the article if not to illicit discussion about whether the proposed number is accurate or not?

Your comment is still stupid and makes no sense.

So now it is stupid and makes no sense when earlier you said:
So which is it? Is it obvious and apparent or is it stupid and makes no sense? You can't even maintain any semblance of consistency in two posts. You can go frick yourself for all I care.

Well, you put a giant tub of corn out in his house. You expect him to not eat it? Corn tastes way better than acorns, just ask a coon.

Ok, genius. The no shite, Sherlock comment was sarcasm. What's the point in even saying that there is no way they have every bear in LA tagged? If there is a point, I'm willing to listen. In my opinion it is a dumb comment and make no sense to even say it. Like you said, the number is an estimate. What are you trying to achieve by saying they don't know where every single bear in Louisiana is located?

What the hell does this mean ? There are only 8 species in the world & we only have 2 within the lower 48
Another animal all together.

Or a trash can or a outside fridge at your camp or a grain buggy on a turn row while harvesting.
My point is you don't see other animals scavenging the way bears do. They will take complete advantage of a crime of opportunity.

bruh, you are like the government: providing all these free feeding opportunities, then you can't figure out why they won't work for a living. Remember what species of bear this is?

or a slightly better version, thanks to the Fark Board...

500 is such a BS number. I travel to all remote corners of Louisiana for work and play, and I can confidently say I've seen between 30 and 40 bears in the past 6-8 years. Taking the low number, I've seen over 7% of the population? Get real.

I get your point but I have never had a bird try to pull the camp door off the hinges.

The statement was made for the people that might be reading this board/post that are not familiar with bears being tagged and tracked as a protected species. They might read the original post and not even realize or know that bears are even tagged since it doesn't specifically mention that point in the article. It only mentions that the study uses the DNA from hair caught in barbed wire to determine the approximate numbers of bears. I grew up in Madison Parish and have land on Bear Lake where there is a huge population of Black Bears that are tagged and tracked. Obviously, if you are familiar with the aforementioned process then my comment wasn't meant for you. Unlike yourself, I don't presume that people reading a post on a message board know anything other than what is in the posted article.
The whole reason for posting this thread was for discussion. This is a message board the last time I checked.
For the record, my opinion is that you are being a troll bitch.

Lazy animals and will find the path of lest resistance to food sources. It's also easy to overestimate the number of bears that may be in an area since bears being lazy, tend to all gravitate toward prime feeding areas. You may see 10-15 in a small area and think there is some even distribution but that may be all there are over a large area.
