Keeping crawfish overnight?

Let's say one needs to buy crawfish one day, then boil the next. What the best way to maximize live numbers? I have one large marine ice chest and several large buckets. Temp and whether or not to unbag are my concerns I guess.

Ice chest with ice on bottom, newspaper ontop that, crawfish ontop that. Leave the plug open and ice chest tilted so it can drain. Keep the crawfish packed tightly

Burlap works a little better than newspaper if you have some. Just don't let the ice come in direct contact with the crawfish also keep the lid cracked open.

What hat said. A piece of plywood in place of newspaper will work too. Make sure to wet the crawfish before putting them in there too.

put a bag of ice on bottom of your marine ice chest, cover with old towel and place crawfish on top. then cover with burlap and shut lid loosely so they can breathe.
you're welcome
ETA: you guys beat me to it

Also. If you have it available we keep them in our outside fridge. It's easy

This is simply amazing we all agree on one thing on this board.

Leave in the original bags or no?

Anyof the above things will work.
Fin is the resident crawfish expert and may have a better idea, but all of the above would be fine for one night.
Eta: leave em in the sack. They'll be fine. The outside fridge thing works well also. That's what I usually do. Less PITA

Some buddies and I drove up to Missouri with 160lbs a few years ago and only lost about 12lbs after 3 days. I was sitting in the back seat spraying them water to keep em rowdy.

unbag them and leave in an ice chest with the plug open and ice on tog of crawfish. that's how i do it at least..

Bernards in Cottonport takes reservations if you feel like driving. Take into consideration that with the Easter festivities in Cottonport I doubt any of those guys will run Saturday morning. I will personally get drunk with at least three farmers Friday night.

It's a problem. If it were up to me, we would do it on friday, but my mother-hen uber Catholic oldest sister will not let us party on Good Friday. It's a fight not worth having. besides, it means that if I do my clean up during the week, I can usually fish or play golf on Good Friday.

We bought some Saturday morning in May last year when it was hot as balls. We did what the other people said - put them on top of ice with burlap on top, and kept the burlap wet. Sunday morning when we started the boil hardly any were dead.
