Thoughts on vehicle? For as ride, cabin noise, mpg, longevity....any major issues or pretty durable

I'm not gonna be much help. I have a 2001 that is a beater ride.
I wouldn't want a Jeep for a daily driver. Jeeps are not bought for comfort and luxury. They're pretty loud, stiff, etc....

Yeah, I wouldn’t get one as a DD. It’s not practical. Sold my ‘06 last year with <95k miles because I couldn’t haul anything with it. I miss that Jeep.
As far as rideability, I’d at least get a TJ (97-06). I’ve had 2 YJs (87-95), and I didn’t really know how much of an impact the coil springs in a TJ would be over leafs in a YJ. I’m a sucker for the square headlights though in a YJ so, as a beater, I’d probably get a YJ again over a TJ. The YJ-TJ era essentially have the same 4 & 6 inline engines that are stupid easy to work one compared to the newer JK/JL models.
If you want heat/ac/comfortable ride, get a TJ. If you want the old school rugged type, get YJ/CJ. I don’t have experience with the new models (07-up) except for the fact they apparently use minivan engines.

Got a 2015 JKUR.
I may never own another vehicle. I'll swap motor when it dies.
I love it, and jeeps have come soooo far in terms of interior badassery. They lost the spirit of the old wranglers like CJs, but they are more capable off roaders than they've ever been.
They are expensive af. They average just under 14 mpg for me, and I'm still stock JKUR. And aftermarket add ons are grotesquely tantalizing.
But they're everything I ever wanted the vehicle to be. Get a hard top hoist for ceiling in garage if u go hard top.
Wranglers are a lifestyle for sure.

My mom wanted one for whatever reason and got a new Rubicon in 2020.
Traded it in within 5 months for a Lexus.

Neighbors of ours have two newer ones (both are a couple of years old)
They’re both in the shop right now
My brother had one several years ago and loved it. But only had it for a couple of years and got rid of it after it was in the shop several times.

Got a 2005 TJ earlier this year. Most fun I’ve had with a vehicle in years. It’s like LEGO’s for adults. Not my DD, but take it to work time to time. Cools/heats quickly cause it’s so small. Ride isn’t bad - but it isn’t a sports or luxury car.
Have plans this summer to hit some trails in Colorado for a week with the kids.

Everyone thinks they want a jeep until they have to daily drive it.
I love having a jeep to hack around on the weekends or take to work occasionally, but when I drove it daily I hated it. Just get a 4x4 truck.
You can’t haul anything, they ride like shite, they’re noisy, and they’re severely underpowered. You’ll regret it as a daily, I promise.

JEEP = Just Empty Each Pocket

They are loud, gas guzzling, absolute POS vehicles that are never ending money pits, but they are amazing vehicles for off roading, and nothing quite beats cruising around with the top and doors off in the spring/summer. Great secondary vehicle (if you can afford the inevitable maintenance issues), but I definitely wouldn't use one as a daily driver.
My personal experience off the top of my head on costs of a 2009 JK manual since March '19 - new clutch, slave cylinder, catalytic convertor, coil pack, alternator, break pads, rear main seal, oil pan and gasket seals. Next project is rust treatment (as this has popped up as of late). Having a newly installed engine was a plus, but the vehicle was definitely heavily dogged by the previous owner. Thankfully, I have a personal mechanic who gives me and my family a break on costs

I've had 3 of them. Cabin noise? It's a jeep... but probably not as bad as you may think. Depends on the tires though. MPG 15-17. My second one had a recall on the heads, but nothing major had broken... other than chit I broke myself (axles, ujoints) Roughly 110k miles on the first, 100k on the second and sitting at 80k on the third.
I tow this thing all over the country behind by RV... It's worth all the nitpicks when you're riding on the beach or the Rocky Mountains with the top off.

Drove a ‘75 CJ5 in high school. Straight 6 258 that was unstoppable.
Wish I could find one again to hunt out of.

2011 Wrangler 4door for wife. I planned on hating it but it is fun. Glad we got it. She loves it as a dd but i think i would go nutz. Very few problems even though 11 was first year after major changes. Try it out .. resale is second to none

I’ve been pondering this very thing. It’s about time to trade in the tundra, I don’t need the full size truck anymore and was looking to downsize a bit to an SUV of sorts. The wrangler unlimited, maybe a gladiator, 4Runner or perhaps a GX 460 if I could find a good deal on one. I have a Tundra TRD... it doesn’t ride all that well and gets terrible gas mileage, so I’m halfway there with these other choices...
I think all have their draw backs... older designs, gas mileage, power, ride etc. and why do I want any of these?
I just don’t pull a boat really anymore, but still hunt a bit... so I want something somewhat capable if I need it to be. Also, to hell with paying 60-70k for a Tahoe.

I bought a 2009 sport (base model) 2 door that i put 130k miles on it until i traded it in for a new 2019 4 door rubicon. I kept up with the regular scheduled maintenance just like any other new car should and never had an issue with it.
They are excellent vehicles and will retain a high resale value. People talk about how much time they spend in the shop but I haven't had that experience since i didn't treat it like a piece of shite and it rewarded me with about 130k miles without problems.
I will say that they ride stiff (made to be off road) so there's not much getting around that. But the interiors of the newer models have a lot more of what you would consider normal interior accessories that you find in any other newer model car. They will give you realistically 14-18 mpg depending on where ya drive. They are expensive so you have to figure out if you really want to spend that much on a vehicle you want to take off road or use as a daily driver. I use mine as a daily driver but take it offroad on some trails up in west virginia when I get the chance to. If you just want it for the top off driving it's well worth that amount of fun, although I'm sure there's cheaper options for that (i.e. don't get a new jeep just to ride around with the top/doors off)

...too expensive,not enough vehicle
...Gas mileage sucks
...Only tows 2k lbs
...Larger gears 3500lb towing
...Not quiet especially if u have larger tires(off road, mud terrian)
...No v8
...Soft top is a hassle to go down and back up...
...Soft top has louder cabin noise
...Hard top requires 2 people to remove...
Positive
...high resale value because the look hasn't changed in 2 decades
Females like them annnnnnnnd........... pussy is undefeated, hence forth so many jeeps on the road...

Factory V8 coming out and damn pricey - Wrangler Rubicon 392.
If you want a V-8, Dakota Customs, AEV, Rubitrux will do a 5.7L or 6.4L hemi. Figure $26k to $30k for them to do the conversion.... plus your jeep.
