I'd get a weekend rig and not a DD. You can still find CJs if you look hard enough.
Pulled my tired 258 out nearly a month ago, it's being rebuilt at a machine shop. My garage looks like a Jeep slaughter house with oil and antifreeze stains and engine parts puked all over.

I picked up a 2018 JL. The JL's are much better than the JK's and previous as far as ride, fit and finish (it is still a Jeep) and the 8 speed is awesome. It is easier to live with the ride if you are already used to 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. They are solid axle SUV's so they handle and ride as such. If you don't tow much, and you just want a capable SUV they are great. If you want a lift and tires plan to spend some money in on the suspension side if you want a nice ride. Even now with 39's and added weight of bumpers/winch/big spare etc... Mine rides more plush than stock ones.
That being said having spent time on and offroad in TJ's, JK's and owning a JL, I would not buy anything but the JL if I were going to drive it daily.

My wife has a Jl and I have a 2 door 2018 JK willys. After a few improvements mine rides much better than hers and it's my daily driver. I added a 2 inch mopar lift that actually nets about 3-1/4 inches, yeti track bar, Nitto Ridge grappler 285/70-17s, wheel spacers and rubicon recon front and rear steel bumpers. It is my daily driver. I personally would only own a JK and we have both.

I'm on Wrangler #2. Had a 2013 2-door JK Sahara and just traded it in on a 2018 4-door JLU Rubicon. The JL is night and day a better vehicle. They were/are daily drivers. I just love driving mine, especially with the tops and doors off, there's just nothing like it.

I am going to be the complete opposite of everyone in this thread.
I love my 2018 2.0L Turbo Rubicon. I commute ~55 miles each day, have ~32k miles on it and I have not had 1 problem with it. I do have the extended warranty and everyone with a newer vehicle should.
I change the oil when it tells me to, it takes MS-13340 certified oil because of the Turbo and because Pennzoil probably paid them tons of money to be the excusive oil for the 2.0L turbo.
Its a bit louder than a normal SUV, but it doesnt bother me at all. I get around 21 MPG combined with the 2.0 Turbo.
I would buy another one with the 2.0L turbo but personally I would pass on the 3.6 Pentastar. Most people are just the opposite because they wont give the 2.0L a chance.

I wanted the 2.0 but I needed to let it get out there and see some action before I pulled the trigger. I don't regret not getting it, but if I get another JL it will be a 2.0. It kicks the 3.6's arse all day.
