My cousin shot a yote with his .338 and I remember the shoulder was gone on the exit side. Just a crater.

Dammit. Really nice buck just came running by me. Could not get him to stop.

Sycamore State Park Ohio
39 degrees and raining this morning
Tree stand overlooking hardwood and a creek bottom.
PSE Surge with 125 grain NAP Thunderhead
2 walked past my stand at 6:00am before shooting light.

2 big doe and a buck came within 40 yards yesterday afternoon but got spooked by something as I took aim. Ended up being another hunter that didn’t realize I was close to the deer. He was 150 yards away when he decided to call them. But I digress.

7:40 am and a small doe walks within 10 yards of my stand. Then a larger doe walked up with her. Decided to take aim and fire since it would be my first deer kill ever. Double lung and heart shot. She dropped right there and kicked around for a few minutes but good kill.

Go retrieve her and she wasn’t as big as I thought. And she wasn’t a she. Damn. It was a larger button buck but nothing really big at all. I think being next to the small doe fooled me.

Either way, it’s my first deer kill, it was ethical, legal, and it will put meat in the freezer. I’ve learned a lot during my first hunting season and I’m looking forward to getting out there again. And I’ll be much more picky with the next deer. I’m hooked though.

Congrats, dude

Killing your first deer ever with a bow is legit. It will easier now.

Happens to the best of them. Congrats!

thanks! Warm, dry clothes, hand warmers in the pockets, and it’s all good. Can’t kill them if you aren’t out there. It’s become therapy to me.

Hell yeah! Nothing to be down about, especially for a first deer AND with a bow.
