Neither of the boys wanted to get up this morning. I’m using Jrs 7-08 as I didn’t pack a rifle this trip.

4Jr shot “at” a doe right a dark yesterday in this stand. I’m sitting a couple hours and will look again for signs of a hit. He got frustrated last night and I fear he has lost his confidence especially due to his younger brother prodding him about it. He will be 12 in a few weeks and I just started letting him hunt on his own a month or so ago. The first evening by himself, he shot a small buck and was positive he made a good shot. I couldn’t find any signs of blood or a hit anywhere after dark. I walked up on the dead buck the next weekend 50 yards from where he shot. Since then, he’s knocked another doe down that we didn’t find and now this. I’ve questioned myself, what he’s doing, rifle, bullet, etc the past few weeks and it’s driving me batshit crazy.

I’ve got pigs sitting in a thicket north of me, they keep grunting but won’t step onto the atv trail so I can eat pork tonight. When I get out this stand, going to try to bust them out. Sure wish I brought the twice pipe and buckshot instead of the rifle.

Pump his confidence up and let him know everyone makes a bad shot at times.

Perhaps he could benefit from some range time?

Some of my fondest memories were going to the range with my Dad and him showing me how to settle in and squeeze off a shot.

Good luck everyone.

Just got off a white capping lake in N Texas. Spray was flash freezing when it hit us and the boat. Solid inch of ice on the boat. Inexperienced operator of the boat didn’t help matters. Very dumb decision to head out in those conditions.

The wind was ruthless this morning. At one point I thought I was going down with my tree.

There will definitely be range time coming. All of this manifested over the last month, which hasn’t been productive for rangers time and hunting unfortunately.

Ground blind on a small food plot

I have my 13yr old daughter with me. She’s on the trigger. If she would have come yesterday like she was supposed to, she would have had a shot at a deer. Hopefully they come back this afternoon.

Artic blast is blowing across about a mile of bean field to me. Unlikely there’s anything I’ll pull the trigger on, but nice to sit with the big rifle one more time.
DIL on another stand where a buck was supposed to come out yesterday. Maybe Lady Luck will be kind to her.

Box stand on a ridge over creek bottom.

I came up to freeze-proof everything at my camp.... but there's plenty of time for that tomorrow!
