Thinking about purchasing one at the gun shop near my camp in Alabama, but I know you can’t buy handguns out of state was just wondering

Yes. To my knowledge it is considered a handgun. A handful of states have laws against pistols which are able to shoot shotgun shells.

Judge used to only hold 5 rounds, S&W Governor holds 6.

Judge may have one now that holds 6.

I don’t understand why people dislike it.

I own one and love it. I really like the versatility of being able to put in .410 shells and 45 LC in the same cylinder.

Hornady makes the Critical Defense .410 rounds that have 2-3 buckshot rounds underneath a .32 slug. One trigger pull, 3-4 big holes in your target.

I keep both the .410 Critical Defense and .45 LC alternating in the cylinder in mine and feel pretty damn confident that I’d be good if I needed to empty it defensively.

Yeah it’s a cool gun. How long have you had it? How’s the finish holding up?

I don't own a Judge and have no desire for one but that review is pretty worthless. Comparing apples to bananas.

5 years or so. Finish is fine, especially considering how often I’ve taken it out in moist, mountainous environments during backpacking trips in bear country.

I agree. He also didn’t mention that you can put .45 LC in the judge when comparing it to the .357. It’s not a one-trick pony.

As far as the power of the buckshot rounds on the cinder block, I would think that would be a selling point in home defense. Less of a concern with the rounds going through walls into occupied rooms or into your neighbor’s house.

And despite the difference in power between the .357 and the buckshot, I would expect that 4 holes would be more deadly than 1 hole, and 12 holes more deadly than 3 holes. But maybe I’m wrong. Plus, in a defensive situation, when you’re probably rushing your shot, I’d rather have 4 chances of hitting my target rather than 1.
