I know we have a thread, but this is an interview with the guy that killed the mountain lion. It's a good read...

Pretty badass.
He got very lucky that the cougar stayed locked in his arm.
But nevertheless, killed a mountain lion in hand to hand combat!

Surprised he can even stand there with the massive testicles he must have.

But seriously holy crap. What a story.

An Arkansas boy that moved West for the outdoor sports. This 60 year-old Louisiana man would have gone into shock as soon as I saw a cat that big in the wild. Would have been going into my Fred Sanford, "I'm coming to join you Elizibeth!" routine.

Amazing that he wasn’t more torn up.

When I was a kid I tried to drop the neighbor’s cat off the roof upside down to see if it would still land on its feet. Didn’t even make it to the roof and I looked like I was run through a paper shredder. And I’m assuming mountain lions have much bigger claws than house cats.

amazing story but it was a young small mountain lion that attacked him. could have been much worse if it were a more mature lion. Badass dude nonetheless.

It was a juvenile that weighed 35 to 40 pounds. He weighs 155 pounds. Now, I know you can get ripped up by a 10 pound house cat and I sure would not want to have to wrestle a 40 pound bag of ill tempered claws and teeth, but the fact that he could kill it is not all that amazing. If it would have been a full grown male cougar, he’d be cat food.

Come on now. It was basically the size of a bobcat. That's pretty badass. I mean there's ZULU guys in Africa that have killed lions with spears that I'm pretty sure would consider it an impressive feat.

The most amazing thing imo is that he was able to walk away. I'm guessing he must have stunned it pretty damn well early on with a rock to the head.

To not get completely torn up by claws? I'd honestly expect something like 30+ lacerations.

no clue why youre getting downvoted like this. the cat was 40 pounds. not saying it would be easy but i bet if push came to shove plenty of your downvoters could strangle a 40 pound cat. now doing it unscathed is another story

"A Good Samaritan transported Kauffman to the hospital, where he realized his face "was just kind of a bloody mess." He received 19 stitches along his left cheek, another six stitches on the bridge of his nose and three stitches on his wrist (where the lion's mouth was). Kauffman said he has several puncture wounds from the cat's teeth and claws, but otherwise feels "great."

A fact nobody seems to be mentioning is that this happened 6 miles into his run. Granted he is pretty fit but a 6 mi trail run at altitude is no joke.

And ran/walked back out.

If I tried to run 12 miles these days, I'd end up I the ER too. No mountain lion required.

I read an article that said it weighed under 100 lbs, but the exact weigh couldn't be determined because it had been fed on by other animals before it was recovered. It also said his wrist was in it's mouth and he had gotten on top of it, pinning it's rear legs back. He then managed to get on of his feet on it's throat to kill it. Sounds like a bad version of Twister.
