Wasn't a ditch. am not surprised at poison ivy...just at the severity of it. and doc told me not to put it on my sack. conclusion: you can't extrapolate for shite.

Don't know if this works for everybody but it sure works for me. Next time you are exposed to poison ivy/oak pour one cup bleach into your bathwater. Scrub and soak in this. Usually helps cut the oil that causes the irritation. FWIW.

This just make me laugh.
I literally have never heard of a person treating their own drinking water on a day hunt. That is like one step away from drinking your own piss.

There’s some research that says iodine doesn’t really do shite for giardia or cryptosporidium. Just buy bottled water or bring water from the house. This ain’t Africa.

This thread is gold.

I get poison ivy now and then, go to the doc in the box and get a steroid shot and it clears up.

I've had it from drinking from the clearest stream you'll ever see. Never again.

Pack Iodine tabs or a small purifier.

The vast majority of giardia and crypto cases go undiagnosed...which is strange because they both suck (but self limiting.) If the average person knew the vast amount of parasites and protozoans hanging out in water they wouldn't consider drinking it...ever lol.

Is this the same jackwagon who was asking about hunting that "public land" behind his house?

Don't blame your lack of woodsmanship on me, cousin. if it makes you feel better I'm not allergic to the PI.

Why would you take the chance of drinking ground water when a couple liters of bottled water cost about a buck? And then to find a tree covered in poison ivy and say "frick it" and not only climb it but sit in it all day? You don't like yourself very much, do you?

The best part is that in order to use iodine tabs, he would have brought a container with him to fill w creek water. Unless he just goosed the tab into the creek?!?!

OP Pro-tip: fill container w potable water before you leave the house.

OP, you have my sympathy.
Get well and get back in the woods.
However, I am amused at the extent of the symptoms.
I suppose we all must take our turn at the bottom of the bell curve at some point.
God bless you, young trooper.

I envision him doing it chocolate milk style - fills mouth with creek water, pops an iodine tablet in his mouth, sloshes around, swallows

I don’t think any of this is real, but if it is then Technu soap will really reduce your chances of getting poison ivy.

I’m highly allergic to poison ivy, and I take a cold shower/wash with Technu each time I leave the woods.
