dpd,

7-08 My vote
7-08 My wife's vote
7-08 My daughter's vote
7-08 My daughter's vote
7-08 My son's vote
7-08 My godson's vote

My godson is 11. I gave him a 7-08 last year. He shoots reduced recoil now and will be able to shoot full loads very soon. And he can keep that gun into adulthood. He shoots pint-sized cans at 100 yards and hits every time. It's an accurate bullet.

Get a 7-08. I prefer Hornady's ballistic tipped bullet (139 Grains).

For me, 7-08 is 8/8 --> shots taken/deer dropped.

One of my buddies shot the buck of a lifetime with his 25-06. We never found it.
However! He did shoot it with Ballistic Silvertips which is the shittiest round ever.

I may be unjustly biased against 25-06.
However, the ballistics, range of load and accuracy all favor 7-08.

As Infidel said, .243 is a good gun for young girls and should come in pink.

If my 270 win is an "elephant gun", then yes. Yes I am.

7mm-08. got one for my son several years ago. he is 16 and still shoots it. so far he is 8/8 deer shot and recovered. shot an 8 pt at 150 yds last week and it ran 30 yds approximately before collapsing. other than that, all have been knocked down and dead on spot. shot placement is really ke no matter what you choose. but for me, the 7mm-08.

Good luck.

Would strongly advise you to stick to NATO calibers.

The SHTF importance of a .308 bolt gun should not be overlooked

I've killed a whole bunch of S La marsh deer with that little gun, out to 250 or so.

But the 243-08 is one hell of a dangerous african game caliber. Cape Buffalo slayer out to 300 or so, no problemo.

Yeah, the 244 remington is the 6mm remington.

A buddy just got back from Africa. He said his PH carried a .243win. He asked him how he got away with a .243 and the PH just said, "shot placement". Then the PH admitted he was gay and offered to suck his cork.

I made that last part up.

I remember getting Outdoor Life as a kid. Back when Carmichael was writing for it I think. This was back when all I had was a 30/30 and so did almost everyone I knew. Anyway, there was this long article on the .243 and how it was the perfect deer round. Stuck with me. Just by coincidence, my oldest BIL gave me his. Never shot that 30/30 again.
