Would strongly advise you to stick to NATO calibers.

7MM 08 is a nice flat shooting bullet at 120gr. IMHO

I normally shoot a Browning 7mm semi auto. My scope screwed up the other day and I needed a gun to use. My buddy loaned me his 25-06. I shot a doe with it that day. I really liked it and am currently looking to get one before next season as a backup gun. I am planning on getting the wife a youth model .243 to see if she wants to get interested in shooting and hunting.

Of the three, I'd get the .25-06. I'd go with a .270, .30-06, and .308 before any of those though.

.243 is the only one I have experience with, so .243 is my choice. Had my model 700 for about 25 years.

Thanks for the responses. The voting was pretty even, so I don't know if I narrowed my choices down any. All will kill deer dead for sure. The .243 would be the cheapest to shoot by about .25 to .50 per shell.

I'm only going to hunt a few days a year, nothing over 150-200 yards. The rest of my shooting will be target. Just looking for something that will be a good deer gun, but affordable and fun to shoot.

Can't understand why a grown arse man with normal sized man anatomy would ever buy a 243, unless he was buying it for his little girl or his petite wife.

Oh I can. My dad has one that is a sawed off thin little 700 Rem with a custom stock he made for it that he can just walk along with it in his hand relaxed and swing it and it not touch the ground. I've never seen a deer get away from that thing. All meat, all the time. Weighs nothing.

Wonderful deer rifle. But he's a deadly shot.
