99% of the time that I have run into a grown arse man that puts down someone who shoots a .243 they could not shoot for shite and tried to make up for it with an elephant gun.

I really like the .243, but if I only had one of those 3 it would be the 7mm-08.

7mm-08 is what I would buy out of those three, and did. Great gun.

I can't figure any reason someone would choose a 243 over it for deer hunting.

Me either. .243 is a nice little gun, but even for a kid with a 7mm-08 you can get the managed recoil ammo and they can use it as adults too. I think most that like the .243 used one as a kid and killed a few and like to defend it. Each his own.

This is just about as perfect a deer round as you can get.
It shoots reasonably flat.
Has little recoil.
Shoots bullets of decent weight.
It's accurate in mast rifles.
It's almost like having a short action 270 Win.
At ranges most normal people shoot deer, you will never notice a difference between the two.

When my son is old enough to hunt, this will probably be his first rifle.
Or a 6.5x55 we shall see, I have a few years to juggle the options.

I would never put it in the hands of a kid. A good shooter fine if that's what one wants but not a kid or novice shooter.

Thats why I bought one. Except the wife spit out two at the same time so I guess I need to get another

Why not?

Because I think you need to be a good shot. IMO the 7mm-08 gives one more room for error with the larger rounds available with very minimal recoil diff. I have a bad taste in my mouth for the 243 from my experiences around them.

My 9 yr old nephew can handle them fine. They will start off with squirrel like me very young and be good with a gun first buy I have zero problem with that. A lot safer than that old 30-30 lever I started with that was junk.

I was talking about giving the the 7mm-08. I dont own a 243 and wont. have no use for it.

My dad had my nephew shooting a 270 with the managed recoil rounds at 8 or 9. He is actually a good shot with it. He has killed 3 deer with it and made 3 good shots.

Yea I think a kid needs to learn to be a good shot. My nephew killed his first ( a 5 pt) with my brothers .223 AR
