Identify my Honey Island Swamp Monster

I hit the Pearl River WMA with a friend to go snake hunting (catching, not shooting
) around Honey Island Swamp one day last week. We were on the opposite side of the main road from the shooting range and walking one of the trails. Heard something trudging through the heavy brush/trees about 40-50 yards away. It was making about as much noise as you could intentionally make in the brush, and there was brush movement above head height. I figured in that area it would be either a hog or a deer - but would a black bear be possible in that area (couldn’t find any errant trash bags)?
I’m no hunter, and though I’ve spent plenty time in the woods catching snakes, it’s usually small patches of woods near neighborhoods - not the deep woods - so I don’t have many encounters with big critters. The few hogs I’ve seen in my lifetime seemed quicker to get away and didn’t seem to create the high brush movement. The few deer I’ve seen have also been quick to get away and much more stealthy. This seemed like it either wasn’t in a hurry to get away or just didn’t give a frick that we were close by and just trudged along on its way. I almost wanted to head in its direction to investigate but didn’t since all I had on me was a Bowie knife. Not ruling out a Squatch, but it would have been a teen, not a full grown adult.

Could be armadillos if it was unafraid of humans nearby. Those things are pretty deaf and blind and easy to walk up on. I would still go with probably a hog.

I’ve run across plenty of those - definitely MUCH larger than an armadillo. This was making as much noise as if you just drove a 4-wheeler straight through the thick brush where there was no trail.

Black Bear.
Through thick brush, they sound like drunken hobos stomping through.

Hog. That area is covered with them. Probably a bog boar. They tend to run solo and don’t spook too easy

Probably a skunk ape. Did it smell like corn chips?

Likely a hog, and possibly an armadillo as well (which are incredibly loud and stupid). Very unlikely to be a bear in HI.

If it was an armadilo, it was this one...

Dude hannels wild cotton mouths but gets all spooky when the bushes rustle.

If need be, I can outrun the cottonmouths.
3 hours in Honey Island Swamp and didn’t see a single snake that day.
