Ideas on 4x4 farm vehicle?

I’ve been thinking about getting some type of small 4 x 4 vehicle with a cab (Top at minimum) and manual transmission that I could get for me and the kids to cruise around the farm. Nothing fancy and preferably older. I want to make sure they all know how to drive a manual transmission, regardless if they think they will ever need the skill or not. My first thoughts are an older CJ7 or Suzuki Sidekick. I only want to spend 3 or
4K max. Any other thoughts or ideas on vehicles I should be considering and where to look? Also, I am not looking for a rebuild project.

Tacoma or Samurai but nobody needs to learn how to drive a stick these days You would be better off teaching them how to type in an address on an IPad for their car to bring them to their destination.

Find one of those Japanese Kei trucks. You can put atv tires on them, most have a bed the the sides/tailgate fold down for a flatbed, and are perfect to put around a farm in.
Plus in some states they can be registered, and used on the street.

I might would stay away from a Jeep if kids will be driving it. I know of several instances of kids turning them over on farms out joy riding.

Early 90s toyota, before they were even called Tacomas. That was the toughest truck ever made, and I see them everywhere still.

Can't go wrong with a jeep XJ. Been having one for the farm about 12 years. Have a 3 1/2" lift kit and will go anywhere a SXS will and then some. You can find one for around 2K with 4x4. Add a lift kit for $600=$800 and another $650 for a new set of tires.

Thanks, I’m not a Jeep guy, so I knew I needed a little guidance. I will start researching the XJ.

Yeah, CJ's have gotten old enough to start fetching semi-collectable prices. It's hard to find a decent one, in most states, for under $10k. It can be done, but most of what you'll find in the 3-4k range will be rust buckets with plenty of other issues to boot.

OP, the good thing about a XJ is once lifted, you can still keep it and use it on the road. The 4.0L straight 6 is one of the best motors around.

This. If you’re just going to use it around your place and not on the road it is perfect. And you can do a lot of different things with tires, etc.

Good luck with that budget OP. You maybe able to find a jeep with 150,000-200,000 miles for that. But it’s a Jeep and you’ll need to look it over hard.
The problem is once you get under $5,000 it becomes “well I could sell it but why not just Keep it for that?”
Can you not get a used SxS for that? I wouldn’t know.

1. Jeep TJ. 97-06. 4.0L. Best Jeep ever built. What breaks is cheap to fix and parts everywhere.
2. Mazda/Ranger. Tough bastards and parts are cheap. 4.0L with MT is the tits.
3. Old Yotas are cool, but they will need repair and repairs are high as hell on em.
