A buddy of mine cooked on a bbq pit made entirely out of scrapped inconel.
I don't even know what to say.
Eta:
If someone wants to make me a crawfish burner

Baws in Lafayette to the coast are cutting up super-duplex risers and all kinds of shite to scrap, times hard.

Nickel Chromium Tubing

I was just curious how much it would cost if you couldn’t find any scrap for that burner!!

Spoons? Gaht Dayum! What kind of spoons: eating, drugs, or fishing?

He was welding them to 1/2" alloy 20 pipe. I think they were jambalaya/crawfish paddles. I wish I had one, those spoons cost the company a few grand.

How about using crab traps for rebar? I've seen that in Chalmette. Not Cajun country, but certainly South Louisiana ingenuity at its best.

True story; back in the 70's a tool pusher needed a new horse trailer and was too tight to use his money. Had the welder on the rig build it over the course of a couple hitches. Finds out the Wheels are coming out to walk around so he has the roof pulled and they tie it off the the leg of the rig until the guest leave. Next morning it rides in on a boat so the painting company can blast, demetcoat and paint.
Loup, i bet that's not the only thing your guy built with that pricey material just what ya'll found.

I was working offshore Louisiana one summer (college years) on an ocean going tug pulling anchors for a barge laying oil pipeline to shore. The captain would trade the company's diesel to shrimp boats in exchange for shrimp. We ate good, the captain made a pile of money, and the company wondered why their tug was using so much fuel.

Oh it happens all the time with drop and CS/austenetic material. He got in trouble because it was client supplied high alloy material.

I worked for the state for a while and some guys did that with state material/time.

Building airplane parts 20 years ago. There where several sizes of nuts made of 925 silver that kept coming up missing. Yes, certain nuts on planes are required to be made of silver. A camera caught the guy taking them, he was found to have taken 20 pounds of silver nuts over the course of a year.

Because they could have made a pile of money scrapping it. And instead... Some baw looked at it and said... I could cook on that

I imagine that inco holds a lot of heat. I've cooked on them made out of stainless and it was tough

Yep, that’s been going on forever. I don’t know a trawler that hasn’t procured fuel that way at some point.
