Yup, never try to outrun a storm with one up. Not mine but one just like it.

Makes for soft landings when jumping wave to wave

It is all fun and games until you blow out your sheet and have to rig up the lazy sheet to replace the main. And coincidentally look at the the shroud on port side and realize it has sheared off as well...Good Times.

I wonder how fast a kayak would go with a small sail on it.
The Sunfish are fun as hell, it has been a number of years , but we used to have a blast on these...

Kayak with a small sail would work great going downwind but you couldn't get back upwind without a keel. I've seen them where it's just two flexible rods with a sail between them that you open up and mount into holes in the yak.
And yes, this was an 'up too late basking in the glow of a good day on the water and too much rum" kinda post.
There are a few sailors on the OB. I seent them.

Nimble this was the first time we'd rigged it to fly on this particular boat and when we set it, it blew up a sheave on the sheet/guy like a grenade. Then we had to deal with hand feeding it because it would get stuck in the remains of the block. Wasn't blowing too hard so it wasn't a big deal. But it was pretty funny to see all the shards of that sheave spread everywhere.

I was kayak fishing this morning and had to go help two little girls (9-10 im guessing) in a sailboat exactly like that. They flipped over and couldn't right it.
5 minuets later, I looked back and they were swimming after it as the wind pushed it around the lake

We used to flip them all the time once you know how to flip them it is easy, but you are going to get wet...

yeah, it wasn't hard for me but these two girls probably didn't weigh 100lbs between the two of them.

I guess ya'll were getting ready for the race?
My spinnaker enthusiast is delivering a Valiant from the Eastern Coast to Kemah this month. I could Spot Post it...but anomynity forbids it.
His race friend sold his J boat and got a Valiant, my pal is delivering it.
Kemah has some nice wind today, Ms. Nimble is out there...I am working.

That's fricking hot.
Nah we don't race much. Mostly just booze cruise. We fly the spinnaker mostly to just mock the yacht club since they rarely ever sail on our lake and mostly just hang out in the bar or do a race on Sunday then run back to the bar. We sail Wednesday and Friday afternoons come hell or high water.

We are discussing a 38 Island Packet. There is one in the BVIs right now. Giving it away...
Still 2 years out for an Island Packet, but the plan is to buy it in the BVIs and sail it back to Kemah.
On Drinking: I do enjoy a cold beer or a refreshing glass of bourbon while sailing in Galveston Bay. I don't drink much while in the Gulf if we are going on more than a day sail.

Nah, this is just afternoon sails with the boys a couple times a week so it's rather sordid. Were we on the gulf it would be a completely different kinda thing.

Faxis: Kemah had some strong winds today. The Ms. Nimble Reefed the Jib and Main and had a great time...
A couple that has a "Fractional Yacht Ownership" over at Kemah Yacht Sales took out a 1 year old, 40ft Hunter and demasted it in the bay today. They were told to reef in the marina and they said they weren't worried about it...

It's hard to have much sympathy in that kind of situation.
Not a big Hunter fan either so LOL.

I have sailed on a 45 Hunter for a good bit. Actually placed in a race in the Gulf one year with it. It isn't a terrible boat. You can always pick 'em out by that traveler over the bimini, which is a royal pain to deal with in bad weather.
But I agree with you. Hunter would not be on my list of boats to own.
I wish I could have seen them de-mast that baby.
and be too far away to offer assistance...
For cruising the Bay- Beneteau 38 would be fantabulous.
