Many good ones in there but no matter how excited you are before pulling the trigger on a rifle slow down take your time. You have more time than you think and if you jerk the trigger you will regret for a LONG time.

Always double check the scope.
Missed a stud opening weekend, muzzleloader was off by 21x 15 inches at 120 yards. Had killed 2 in 5 minutes 3 weeks before in a different zone.

It doesn't matter what time you get to your duck hole, if someone else wants to hunt their then they will. They won't respect you being their first. Just hunt places too hard for the guppies to get to

I had an accidental discharge while climbing out of a deer stand, I got in a rush when my buddy came to pick me up and never unloaded the gun! started down the ladder without the gun, reached back in grabbing it by the grip, finger went inside the trigger guard , gloved hand was on the Tang safety, must have pushed it off while pulling the trigger, neither of which I was concious of.

Boom, luckily I had it pointing straight up. The only thing I did right in that whole scenario.

A really sobering, embarrassing incident. I have been hunting a long time for something like that to happen.

As I pieced together how this occurred, I was complacent, got out of my normal routine, normally I get unloaded and everything packed up long before he gets to me. And then I got in a hurry. Very thankful I was by myself and no one got hurt.

1. I grabbed a 3 pt I had shot in the neck once, the fight was on and he nearly kicked my arse.

I didn't realize how strong a freaking deer is.

2. If you are using a climber and had been drinking the night before make sure you shite before you go.

When the pain hits it's nearly impossible to get down the tree without shitting your pants.

Even on your knees and holding a rope for balance, a frozen boat floor is slippery. And a 45 min boat ride soaked from head to toe is a bad way to spend a Saturday morning.

There are some hunts you wont ever get to make again. Could be due to losing land access or the friends you hunted with passing, etc. Treat every one of em like it's the last time you get to do it

Go with your dad and brother more than you have.

Amazing how life throws you curve balls.

I also, take my son pretty much every time I go now.

A wounded deer has a will to live that surpasses your imagination and strength, and hooves sharp enough to cut through carhart, cotton, and several lavers of skin. All of this is magnified in the dark when it’s raining.

Make sure someone knows where you are going and how long you plan to be there.

Just because you dont find good blood in the first 50 yds, doesn't mean the deer isn't dead. Don't get discouraged.

Shoot with a clear mind when bow hunting. Draw, Breathe, Aim, and Squeeze. Its that simple.

If you think the creek might be too deep, it is.

Always have something to wipe your arse with. Deer camp diets are 1000% worse than normal, eventually you will find yourself in the woods and in a bind.

Never give up on a turkey hunt if the bird if still close, when you think its probably over, it ain't.

Hunting is way more about the people and the experiences than the harvest itself.

I learned never to go check a camera and leave my gun in the truck during the season the hard way. Ran off a nice 8 in the middle of the plot

One of the first times I went hunting as a little kid around 4 or 5, I learned that if you have to take a dump in the woods, besides getting your arse out of the coveralls you need to make sure you get your pecker out as well or you end up freezing in piss soaked coveralls

Add a winch to your 4 wheeler - the one time you really need it, it will be worth every penny.
