I'm 37. No offense Balls but when we met in Monroe, I was certain you had me by 10+ years. Then again maybe you only had me by 10+ whisky drinks.

In short, most of you newbies are pansies.

I didn't start hunting until I was 18. I've always done it the hard way with a few cush hunts spread in between. I get much more satisfaction out of working for it.

too many young guys are spoiled, going on high fence hunts, being set up in warmed pit blinds, etc.

have you seen the poor numbers around the state the past decade? I'd argue it's no easier than 30 years ago. What makes it easier? me having an iphone in the stand? please explain

I get what you're saying. But I don't think it's an absolute. I'll sit in a box stand with a high powered rifle and drink beer. I'll also grab my bow and jack up a tree or wade in nut deep sludge to kill a few gads and woodies. I enjoy it all really and am glad the technology and shite is there. It's all comes down to the person. I don't think you can label all young punks a bunch of pussies

Aren't you the same guy that got all mad when we made fun of your cooler? Relax.

I don't live in LA. But there are FAR more deer in N. AL and bigger deer, than there were 30 years ago.

Today's tech is helpful no doubt.

But population urban creep, "advanced management practices", high fences, increased infra structure, decreased public land, decreased private land access, increased litigation, social media, wireless electronic leashes, have all made legal "easy" hunting unattainable to some, financially prohibitive to others, and in many ways less enjoyable than the dethatched from society and responsibilities of daily life 1:1 commune with nature that hunting used to be.

I'm 42. I remember wearing boots with no insulation in them at all. We had to buy boots that were 2 sizes to big so we could wear more socks to try and keep our feet warm. Also, no boots were waterproof then. You avoided water like the plague because if your feet got wet you were done. Also, when I started duck hunting around the age of 17, there was no such thing as neoprene. You had this rubber crap, cold as hell waders that would crack if they got too cold.

Personally I wouldn't go back to any of that if I had to.

I look around and read this board and it seems like 90% of the hunters these days are staying in nice camps, and sitting in warm box stands, and looking out over herds of deer while waiting to select a big one to shoot with their scoped $1000 rifle.

Really, can I not just ask a question for the sake of the argument anymore?

Everyone is always saying how much harder hunting is now because of the number of new hunters, rich hunters, corportate hunters, etc, therefore I'm asking how it's easier now. You think it's easier because my boots are warm? LOL because my gun is expensive? LOL because I can text in the blind? LOL

Well this thread will be interesting. What is the cut off line for newbies? I need an age before I weigh in, but something tells me I will be in the newbie category.

could kill ducks consistently with 2 5/8 shells

It's really not going how I intended. I have no real problem with any "newbies". I just wanted to talk about how cold, wet, sleepy, and tired we used to be and how difficult it was to kill deer in those conditions.

But, I forgot how young most of the guys on this board are and how probably most of them have no idea what I'm talking about.
