after catching a fish or several fish?

I usually retie it and cut about a foot off the line after a few fish just to be sure there isn't a knick in the line.

ETA: I'm generally talking about bass, bream, and specs/reds.

What say you?

Anyone else do this?

It depends on the the fish, the line, and the area Im fishing. In general though with mono I retie after a few bass, and with fluro or braid only when I change baits.

I rub my finger on the line very often throughout the day, also look at it, if it's got anything wrong with it, I re-tie it. With that being said... This can vary from 2-3 times a day to 10-15 times depending on what I'm fishing, in what type of cover, and how often I'm catching fish.

Eta: talking bass fishing and I barely have line breakage issues

I retie when I switch lures. Thats it! If you tie a good knot to begin with, you should be good. If your line pops, its more than often because you did not set your drag properly!

I don't retie nearly enough.

And a "good knot" will not keep line that abraded from breaking.

LOL, 20 damn rods ? A little over kill maybe ?How long does it take you to re tie a rod ? Two or three should be enough if you know what you're doing.

I fish a lot of clear water, so I am using as small of line as I can get away with. I retie the hook often(3 fish or so), leaders not so much.

Usually one fish too late. Those little fangs on trout nick the hell out of the line.

I only bring 2 or 3 rods fishing, so I end up changing baits enough to not have to worry about it.

I check it often when catching reds though, since I almost never change baits in the marsh. Spinnerbaits and spoons.

I check my line close to the bait every time I grab it to flip when bass fishing. Don't know that I've ever had a reason to cut it though

TFM....

True guys only need one good rod & a backup.

I only re-tie when changing lures or after a big fish. But I examine it after every catch.

unless you're fishing any kind of structure at all, where the line tends to get nicked. Rip rap, stumps, you name it are all very damaging to line.
