Yeah while it wouldn't be cheap to replace I wouldn't be near as upset about the money as the time. There is a LOT of vice time in those boxes/bags. And then there's all the scotch I had to buy to tie all those flies...

Close to $1000 probably. You'd be amazed how fast $6 crankbaits and tungsten weights can add up. I had a full box go missing about 10 years ago(never concluded whether it was stole at gas station or blew out the boat). I spent $600 to buy an exact replacement and fill it about half up. However $200 was to replace the handheld Magellan I had stored in it. The lost waypoints were priceless.

I've slowly become a minimalist. I have a small tackle bag, with <$100. If I brought the only thing I ever use, $12 for two gold spoons, and only because I like to have a backup. I could be successful with one pole with a gold spoon, a bottle of water and my PFD. Yet I still bring way too much shite.

Easily a grand, I probably have $300 in Senkos alone. Throw in tungsten weights and a bunch of KVD square bills in more colors than Bob Ross could imagine and and you're probably half way there...

I kayak fish and bring all my gear for whatever I'm targeting that day.
Bass - $2000
6 Plano 3700 trays - $1500
4 3 gallon ziplocs of soft plastics - $400
Fluoro leader material - $40
Boga grip - $80
Slabs/bream - $300
1 small Plano box - $100
2 gallon bags of plastics - $200
Catfish/SW terminal tackle - $200
Marsh - $700
2 Plano 3700 trays - $400
2 3 gallon ziplocs of plastics - $300
I used to scale down and bring only a small bag but I kept finding myself wanting stuff I didn't bring so I instead organized everything meticulously and packed it appropriately and now I have no trouble bringing with me everything for a given species.
I think most people waaaaay underestimate the cost of replacing a tackle box/bag that they've been building for 10+ years. Crankbaits and spinnerbaits averge over $5 each now. That adds up fast. A pack of good hooks is $5+. Lead isn't cheap either and soft plastics are probably $4 per pack. I rue the day I have to try to replace my gear.

I probably have $400 in just hardbaits alone, mostly topwater. Prob about $200 in soft plastics, $100 in miscilaneous including jig heads, pliers, etc. I fish saltwater exclusively
