I know it’s more about water depth? But generally how far out do you need to run to find snapper? I would like to try and catch a few this summer in my new to me boat. I’ve been plenty of times on charters and friends boats, but haven’t put myself on snapper in my own boat. FWIW I have a 22’ Bluewave.

We catch keepers out of shell beach in <50' of water. I think its less than 10 miles from the rocks.

Depends on where you run out of. You could run 8 miles out of Grand Isle and hit snapper depth. On the other hand you may have to run 30-50 miles out from Cameron.

That's about the distance we start getting on Snapper out of Freeport/Galveston. That 100' depth seems to be the magic number. We have several rocks and submerged stuff that we will start working on in that water depth. Typically, you can see them on the screen stacked up on the structure. Every once in a while you can catch them in state waters on the short rigs but they get so picked over by the bay boat crowd that it is usually not worth the effort unless you want to try and pick up a King on a troll around the rig.

Weather permitting this weekend, I may try to run out of Coco marina. I’m thinking 20 miles out of Coco should get me to snapper water.

Last summer I ran 35 miles south of last island and got to 110' water in my bay boat. If you head towards fourchon (Southeast) you can get to +/- 120' around ST 130. I think it's about the same distance

Did you look at the weather forecast for the weekend? You aren't snapper fishing in a bay boat this weekend for sure.

This may be the problem. Looks like it will be a windy one.
