How do you sharpen a knife correctly?

Sharpener? Stone, strop? How do I do this?

I've always used a stone. I think a stone followed by a strop yields better results though, could be wrong.

When knifes leave the factory they are sharpened at a certain angle. This angles does change from one manufacture to another. A steel is used to keep an edge on the knife and should be used often. If that angle is lost it needs to be redone which requires being resharpened at the original angle...

I have a Spyderco knife and a Spyderco Sharpmaker, but they are at the exact same angles. Different blades have different angles

That is pretty dirty. But funny.

I just bought one similar to that one. It's a work sharp also. It was about 80 bucks on Amazon. Like the previous poster said, I can shave my arms after about a minute or two on that sharpener.

I use a stone and steel. I use my knives a lot during trapping season and it works for me. That said, I've been looking at the worksharp for a while now.
