Gun suggestions for camping

Going to start kayak camping this year in the Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, and Idaho areas. Looking for gun suggestions for when I'm camping on the river banks or taking day hikes. Grizzlies and mountain lions are a small concern but humans are probably still my biggest threat. Right now I have a Glock 19x with a flashlight. Should I opt for something smaller and more concealable or bigger in case of a 4 legged threat?

If I’m camping where something can eat me I’m bringing a 10mm for a sidearm.
I’m sure there are better ones, but if a 9mm can blow your lungs out, then a 10mm will blow their brains out.

Wyoming and Idaho are big time griz country and if I was hiking/camping alone remote in spring/summer, I'd bring a rifle or a shotgun with slugs, and have spray in a holster. Portable hot fence for around the camp.
Griz stress me out. People probably aren't going to sneak up on you except on the trail head, and you can spray those bastards too.

I’m glad you have your spray in a holster
I have a left hip and a right hip. I’m spraying and praying with that 10mm and bear spray.

Honestly I'm more afraid of getting in trouble with the law from shooting a grizzly than I am of getting eaten by one.
I can be really liberal with the spray. Not so much with the bullets.

Take two guns. 1st is a 45acp glock 17 round clip with jacketed hollow piunt ammo.
2nd 12 gauge pump shotgun unplugged. Loaded wirh alternating shells of slugs and 00 buckshot. Start off with rifled slug in the chamber.

Glock 17 is a 9mm. There has never been a Glock 17 manufactured in 45acp. That would be the Glock 21, 30, 36 or Glock 41 long slide.

Actually start off with the buckshot first. Your first shot will be on the fly and you might have time to aim on your second shot. Basic self defense firearm training 101.
Also I re-read item one and realize you meant a 17 round mag for the Glock 45acp...they are 15 round mags. they do make 10, 30 and 50 round but no 17 round.

Glock makes 10 and 15 round mags only for their 45acp models.

Keep in mind I have to be able to fit all my gear on a kayak. Taking a shotgun would be very difficult

357mag or 10mm is just going to tickle a grizzly. Need something with more oomph. I would feel more comfortable with a 44mag, 45 colt, or 454 Casull, shooting at least 300gr of mono-metal solid or hard cast lead bullet with maximum powder charge. In a giant semi auto you also have 50AE that would work.

You could also consider going the PDW route in .300 blackout. Something to consider in addition to handguns.

I would go with a lever action carbine in 45/70, stainless. pretty lightweight and you should be able to easily strap it to your pack. Henry or the new ruger marlin

I don’t think you want to be bogged down with long guns or multiple guns.
Bring either a Glock 20 (10mm) or a big revolver, like 44mag. And bear spray.
