Sounds like the regular working person should find a better job.

What you gonna do when the regular working folks get a better job? Build your own house, repair your own car, make your own electricity, plastic bags, grow your food, refine your own gasoline?? Asking for a friend

If you going offshore you could launch in Leeville for free, run Bayou Lafourche to Belle Pass and it wouldn't add any time to your route. Just a longer boat ride.

The worst part about launching in Grand Isle on a busy weekend is parking for your boat trailer, during the week and between Labor Day and Memorial Day its not really problem though.

If you in a truck and want to pass the toll without paying just lower your tailgate. If you pulling a boat its going to pick up your trailer license plate.

And as a Conservative in a Conservative state with an R Governor and 2/3rds of the House and Senate as R's...........WTF is going on in this state we love so much?

We should be kicking arse right now and yet we are where we were 20-30 years ago in most areas.

My wife (no pics) took a trip to G.I. one day and went through the toll. Never been through a toll that doesn't take your money at the toll. Yea it was a few years ago. Don't mind tolls, just let me pay for it when I cross it.

At least if you have a camp down there, you can leave your boat and trailer at the camp and only have to pay $4.50 toll if you're not towing anything across the bridge. $4.50 is fair IMO. Its a big expensive bridge that only serves a small population of full time residents. I don't know how you'd expect to get funding for that kind of project without tolls.

But $21.90 for a pickup truck towing a bay boat is ridiculous. That's the same toll cost as oil tanker trucks that weigh 50k-60k pounds going to and from Port Fourchon. Makes no sense to charge the same for a semi truck that weighs 7-8x as much as a pickup and boat do.

Lake P causeway for example...the cash toll is $6 for a passenger vehicle and if you were towing a boat, it would be $8 or $11 depending on the number of axles while semi trucks would be $26

Florida and Texas both have a lot of toll roads that will bill you by mail, if you don't have a toll account setup.

Launch out of Leeville (Free)

You can avoid the island and have the added option of being able to fish the west and east sides.

I stand by my statement that property owners south of the bridge should be exempt from tolls. I do agree that non-commercial vehicles should not pay the same rate as a commercial vehicle.

There's a daily average of 1200 trucks that drive the elevated expressway traveling to Fourchon/GI. Total cost for phase I was $371m, with $225m from federal funding along with State and local bonds at $146m. Annual revenue just from commercial trucking is +/- $9.5m. The expressway has been open for 16 years. Again, why am I paying a toll?!?

Ummm...Port Fourchon.

How much money do you think that place pulls in?

Hell...the port is the only real reason that bridge was built.

how much did the bridge cost?
how many federal dollars were used?
how long are the tolls to last?

until we know these numbers then people complaining about what is and isn't "REASONABLE", are full of hot air.

Gut feelings usually aren't a great indicator of accurate costs.
