After a really good night of snake hunting, including 2 scarlet kingsnakes, 9 scarlet snakes, and a few others, I decided to call it a night and was headed back to the hotel when this happened at 1:30 am…

Some python contractors pulled up behind me, so I got them to video my catch for me then handed it over to them . We measured it at around 13 ft. Can’t even describe how strong and heavy this thing was. Made last year’s 10 footer seem small.

wtf is a python contractor and why didn't my high school counselor tell me about that career path?

That's a big freakin' snake. Glad you caught that invasive bastard.

You'd think you could sell it for good money, but I guess the market is flooded currently.

The python contractors get paid to search and get paid by the snake. I think it’s limited to only 100 licenses. I believe they get $100 plus another $25 for every foot over 4 ft., so that snake should fetch them around $325. Plus they can sell the hide.

What did the other guys do with the serpent?

Did they execute it or release it back into the wild to overrun another location?

Probably Florida. They're having a huge python harvest right now.

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/state/florida/article307890215.html

quote:

The Conservancy of Southwest Florida reports it has captured and humanely killed 20 tons of the snakes since 2013, including a record 6,300 pounds of pythons killed this past breeding season, according to a June 9 news release. To put that in perspective, 20 tons — or 40,000 pounds — is a mound of snakes the size of a fire truck ... or a fully loaded city bus.

I used to live down that way, they should allow them to shoot them in the field. Hell with having to euthanize them.

magnificent animal…just not where he’s supposed to be. Exhibit A on how reckless introduction of non native species can destroy an ecosystem
