Got a Bergara B14 - Scope Recs and Rail or Direct Mount

Excited to have a rifle made this century, but now I need optics. I'll be scanning the many other threads here and shopping in the $300-$450 range. Just hunting, not trying to shoot 1000+ crazy stuff. In the woods mostly. I'll take recommendations or current deals if anyone wants to throw any out there, but my question is whether to do a rail or direct mount rings. I direct mounted the rings last time I did one, but it was not a bolt action.
ETA: short action, 6.5

Direct mount if you arent doing LR shooting. DNZ makes nice and affordable mounts. I would get a Meopta Optika 5 2-10 if it's for hunting. Great glass and cheaper than a lot of options.

B14 hunter in 308. Talley one piece rings - medium height. Meopta meosport 50mm. Perfect fit.

My friend has a b14 in 6.5 with a Meopta and has had no complaints. The B14 is a tack driver and the action smooth.

Meopta or Trijicon, looking. Is Trybe any good? It is showing in my searches and I just haven't heard anything about that one.

I bought a Trijicon accupoint for my Weatherby Vanguard 30-06 and then a nice Leopold for .270 Christensen Arms rifle.
The B14 reviews look pretty sweet for the price. I just gotta figure out which weapon system I absolutely have to have next.

if thats your budget, the Leupold Freedom series is a good no bells or whistles hunting scope. But for that rifle, I'd get this Zeiss...however, I've been eyeing a Meopta as well for my next one

That’s the Meopta i bought. Seems like I paid around $440 or so for it. Incredible scope for the price point.

Just mounted an arken SH4 6-25x50 on my deer rifle. I am extremely impressed with the build quality and glass for a sub $400 scope.
Pro tip: purchase direct off the website and use their discount code to get rings, flip caps, scope level and some other goodies for an extra 60$.

This. There’s no point in introducing a second mechanical interface unless you’re locked in to a scope mount made for rails.

And also this.

Thanks. The only time I did one, I used Talley lightweight rings. So far so good, but will definitely pair whatever I get with rings that make the most sense. I will probably shop for a while to get used to prices, no rush before end of summer other than wanting to shoot the thing.

Tally Lightweight rings work just fine on my B14 Wilderness Ridge.

I have a 5-15-50 Arken. Only bitch I have is it fogs up really easy. For a $400 scope it has decent glass quality and the adjustment knobs are pretty nice with good audible click. Return to zero is a plus also in their price range.

I would take a look at the Meopta Optika5 3-15X44 Z-Plus reticle. This will work great for your needs, and dialing in the bullet drops using Strelok Pro will be a significant advantage. The 5 has better light transmission than the MeoSport R, which for hunting, is exactly what you need. You could step up to the 4-20X50 Optika5, which is more $, but the Meopta Store is giving 10$ for first-time buyers. Tough to beat, but if you do, let us know where!

Well everyone is helping my assumed budget creep up a bit, but I'm not upset about it. I plan to watch the ones I'm interested in to see what prices might do. That's how I found the rifle for pretty cheap ($589 on clearance at a local place). I have no experience with dialing anything, my longest shot at a deer is probably 60 yards, but I limited myself based on location and equipment. I know I can go quite a bit farther out if needed with this one.

call and ask for Doug and/or Neil at Camera Land NY. They have been in business for 65+ years, and I have bought dozens of scopes from them with zero complaints. They can even hook you up with the scope rings necessary for your application.
free shipping and no tax ... this Meopta is -$100 off and a solid deal
Meopta uses Schott glass that is high quality and made in Germany
Optika5 2-10x42 .... priced at $349.
