GM Required OnStar Subscription Purchase
Posted by LaRougarou

Looking at ordering a 2023 GM/GMC 6.6 gasser HD2500. I know, GM and ill-timing comments incoming.... Several dealerships have informed me that the line item of $1,500 for OnStar is NONnegotiable. Anyone know if this is correct? Am I a lone wolf for rejecting the premise that I am required to pay for this “service,” even though I do not want if, for the “Cough” privilege (“Cough”) of driving a GM truck? For over 30 years I have driven GM trucks but it looks like I may be forced to look elsewhere. For the record and for Brand & Dealership recommendations, I am 6’6”, pre-Thanksgiving 285#’s and frugal. I know that I am OLD, FAT and “POORS” so no need help me come to those realizations.lol: Thanks in advance for any new buy experiences or suggestions.

That sounds like a good reason why I wouldn’t buy a truck.

You could steer into that and become an absolute pain in the arse to OnStar. You could call them every time you get in the truck, force them to cancel that nonsense.
How much is OnStar a month?

$1,500 is for 3 years. Not sure after that as I have no plan to play.

Ask GM and if it turns out to be correct:
1 - buy another brand
2 - report the bull shite to the media
3 - tell the dealer you identify as OnStar and already have it

Everything is negotiable!
Car dealerships have enjoyed a couple years of insanity and over pricing but that is starting to crumble.
I’ve walked away from several offers to purchase the exact vehicle my wife wants because of “market adjustment” being tacked on. No way I’m paying thousands more just because.
Walk away from that dealership! In 6 months they will be calling you and begging you to buy that vehicle that has just been sitting there. Car dealerships buy on credit as well and they have to move inventory. If you can wait, walk away. If you can’t wait, negotiate as hard as you can and play dealerships against one another.

I’ve never had onstar.
Is it better’n’a cell phone?

No way in hell I’d pay that, and they absolutely can negotiate it off. frick dealerships and their scummy sales tactics

They have new 7.3 gasser. I have heard good things about both gassers.

I have a 2019 C2500 High Country that I pay off in March. I haven't had OnStar in years..probably kept it the first year because it was a freebie, but once I got the renewal notice I cancelled it. No need for it really.

Tell them to take $2000 off the truck price then. 1500 to offset the onstar charge and 500 extra for wasting your time.

Well whether they like it or not, you got the money and they got the truck. They're acting like they'd rather have the truck than the money (which is likely true in today's climate).
Leave. They'll call you in a week. Or maybe they won't. Life's too short to waste it in a fricking car dealership talking to some weasel dick salesman.

Tell us how you really feel.

I’m with you 100%. Was in a Ford dealership yesterday picking up my 2010 F150 from service. Had a Lightening Lariat listed MSRP at $72,000 but a dealership “treatment” of $20k. Treatment is simply their markup. Truck is selling for $92,000 and some idiot will buy it.

Tell them fine, take $1,500 off the cost of the vehicle then. After it expires, don't sign back up. Get used to it. Car companies want you to pay them a monthly fee just like the phone, cable, etc. This will be migrating over to your refrigerator, etc. too.

In give or take 6 months you will see 10k off msrp again, just be patient.

Been trying to wait out the prices but the transmission in my old Avalanche blew this past weekend so I went ahead and bought.
Got $6500 off a 2022 Silverado LT and found out after I’d bought that the large information screen will be mostly useless without OnStar service. The Google map and all the apps associated with everything on the screen are apparently dependent on OnStar. I got 3 months free but it $40 a month after that.

Got screwed by a dealer over a pinstripe. My son’s car was laid up at the dealer after towing it to two different dealers and getting outrageous repair estimates. Couldn’t get a part to fix it and he needed a vehicle right away so he settled for the only Bronco Sport they could get - at sticker plus $1,500 in add-on crap. This included a $299 pinstripe he didn’t want and wasn’t yet on the vehicle. We even offered to still pay the $299 for NOT adding the pinstripe. They wouldn’t do it. Before giving him the vehicle they put the pinstripe on, then told him he could return the next day to have it removed. Definitely the most ridiculous dealership I’ve ever dealt with, but we were in a bind.

I’d really like to see that “buyers order”, until then I call BS…

Ok pard, look at Capitol Chevrolet in Austin Texas and come back and retract your Bull$hit.
I really don’t give a damn what you believe, I bought a Suburban and and Silverado from Capitol 2 years ago and when I got online to search prices and supply, they had ALL their 2022 Silverado LT’s discounted $6000 and after applying another $500 cyber cash discount that adds up to $6500 in case you can’t add.
I went to my local dealer and told him I’d bought over $110,000 in Chevy vehicles from Capitol on my last purchase and I wanted to give him a chance to keep me from driving 6 hours to Austin.
10 minutes later he came back with a buyers offer on a 2022 Silverado LT, sticker prices $54.075, my price $48,075 plus $600 Chevy Cyber cash, making my final price $50,964 with tax, title, license. I wrote him a check for $50,964.73 and drove off in my 2022 Summit White 5.3 V-8 Silverado with bucket seats, custom wheels and factory sprayed in bedliner.
And you can call bull%hit all you want while I drive around in my new Chevy.
