I'm sure you're aware, but aint nothing guaranteed if you're going free range/low-fence.

This guy is top notch and has giant deer on his property. You will never hire an outfitter that works harder for you.

That’s basically why I’m looking. I’ve been in my lease around home $1100 a year in the past 2 years killed a doe and 1 pig. That’s not counting the feed, cameras, time etc.

I have done the Midwest deal. I have gone on hunts in Illinois where I didn't see a racked buck after 5 all day sits. This was mainly due to hot weather and I missed the rut by a week. I went on a low fence Texas hunt this year, and I saw more bucks over 160 in two days than I could see in a lifetime in the MS delta. I ended up killing a 187 in 14 pt. Our group had 4 bucks killed that were over 180 and one was over 200. Maybe I just haven't been to the right Midwest places, but I hear way to often guys coming home without a buck on Midwest hunts. Rarely do you come home without a great buck in south Texas. By the way, my Texas hunt was with a bow, in a ground blind, with temps in the high 80s. Those Texas deer are just a lot more fun to hunt. Good luck on your hunt.

If you're not dead-set on a rifle hunt, I would highly recommend hunting the rut in the Midwest. For most of Mizzou and Illinois you're gonna be looking at the first or second week of Novemeber. If you choose Mizzou, you could bow hunt either of those weeks or rifle hunt the back end of the rut or possibly even do a combo hunt with your budget. Illinois you would be looking at bow hunting until the 3rd weekend in November when first gun (Slug gun/Muzzleloader) opens, and you will still catch a lot of rut activity.

I would be too, he still gets reminded of it a lot since he is still paying the trip off.

my BIL goes on a trip to hill country each year, semi-guided for $700 per person, 3 days i think. No lodging. 150+ are possible, but he usually kills a nice 130-140" deer.
and for the life of me i can't remember the name of the place

I was south of Uvalde about an hour. I was on a ranch that mainly caters to people who work in the outdoor industry. I have a friend who works for Browning, and I got to hunt with them while they filmed a show. The ranch is 30000 acres. The guides were saying there are plenty of low fence ranches down there that are better than this one. I find that hard to believe though.

I mean come on man. That’s great and if you enjoy it that’s fantastic. But let’s not act like those are natural deer, feeding naturally, etc.
The bigger Midwest outfitters certainly have percentages. Most are around 50% shot opportunities I believe.
If you think outside the box from Illinois and Iowa there are some great hunts. As said, if you want to go early I’d go more North. Warm weather will hurt your opportunities.

Baldona,
I assume you are referring to the fact that feeders are common in Texas, and that is like a canned hunt. What is the difference in hunting over feeders in Kansas, MS, or LA, etc. I mainly think it is due to the size of the ranches and the extremely low pressure. The Midwest is great, but I just don't like spending 4 to 6 thousand on a hunt, and the percentage is 50% opportunity. Also, most people that I see usually are killing 130 to 150 type deer on those Midwest hunts. I can do that on my place in the MS delta. I just enjoy seeing multiple trophy class bucks on every sit. I wish I could find a good Midwest place to shoot a bruiser during the rut, but I haven't had good luck there. I have hunted some of the better places up there too.

I hunt on family land just north of you at onward. I hate how all of that happened with those clubs. A ton of history was lost over night, and it is almost impossible to re create those old school delta clubs. My family has been in a club on the river at Greenville for 30 years. I can't imagine having that taken from me so fast. On the flip side, you may be able to find plenty of openings in the south delta on the cheap if CWD keeps making appearances.
