Foxes aren't going to bother your dog, coyotes though, are a real threat.

Leave them be. They’ll eat rodents and keep snakes away.

That was my first thought as well. I wonder how great of a pet they would make?

When I moved into my first house I had about an acre next to me that was wooded that had a litter of foxes.. When I bought my pup I was worried about the same thing but I quickly came to relive the foxes didn’t want anything to do with the dog . That’s just my personal experience with them and they were cool to watch in the mornings and afternoon when they made their appearance
that’s good to hear. I love seeing the tons of creatures we have on our property and thought the fox was a cool addition.

One fox was cool, the litter of foxes is what had me worried. Although I think they’re responsible for nearly wiping out the rabbit population we used to have running around here I don’t think they pose much of a threat to my dog. I’ll just leave them be. Given their size and stories I can’t imagine them ever getting into any kind of spar where my dog could get pinned down and killed before running back to the house in the worst case scenario if outside alone.

I do hate all the fricking squirrels we have around here so that’s a plus and they’ll have plenty to eat if that’s the case.

Problem is we have a dachshund that my wife was already concerned with when we first saw the fox coming around. We have property and I work from home so during the day I let her hang outside. She mainly sticks to sunbathing on the deck but even I’m somewhat concerned now too since we’d have a lot more foxes running around

I wouldn't be worried. I seriously doubt a fox will attack your dachshund and if it did, there's a good chance the dog would whoop it.

fun until they aren’t I would imagine. My Dad would catch them as a kid and raise for a while.

My neighborhood has a fox family and they are really cool to see. Not big at all and seem very docile.
I love getting glimpses of them.
I’ve seen them with squirrels in their mouth.
Nobody in our hood seems to have an issue with them.

We have some foxes that patrol our neighborhood at night, yes the screams are bloodcurdling. Nobody except the chicken lady ever had any problems with them.

I guess I'm in the minority and if I was a betting man I would say that you guys are likely right, but if I had a dog under 15 lbs I personally wouldn't want a fox or coyote around. A quick google search shows red fox are usually 7-20 lbs. I'd mostly be concerned about an overly hungry mom being aggressive.

Now what would I do with a mom and pups? Yeah I don't know. Not worth euthanizing them I don't disagree there.

that’s where I landed. Going to leave them be but appreciate someone understanding the concern. My dog is a miniature dachshund and is only 12 lbs max. The foxes are certainly bigger than her but if their primary diet is rodents, snakes and squirrels they should have enough to eat around here and are welcome. I imagine they’d have to be pretty desperate to go after my dog and from what I read and can tell they aren’t active in the middle of the day which is the only time she’s in the yard on her own unsupervised.

ETA if it was a pack of coyotes next door then it would definitely be a different story.

I have a red fox in my neighborhood also. I have a golden retriever so I'm not concerned. But I came to say, I'm fairly certain neighborhood foxes live mostly off road kill. I know a fox could fairly certainly live off just dead road kill squirrels by walking the roads a couple nights a week by me. That's when I see it, when I'm coming home after its been dark for an hour or so.

I had a couple of Fox pups my grandfather caught when I was a kid. Those things never did get remotely tame. We ended up giving them to the zoo.
