Gents - got some very sad news today a friend and co worker passed away today due to a four wheeler accident. Grown man, very experienced hunter. And it wasn’t enough. He had his first kid on the way.
Message to all… take precautions. Slow down. Drive carefully.

I heard about this tragic accident an hour ago. Absolutely horrible news. I didn’t know him well, but much sympathy to his family.

My neighborhood got iced in. Had a parent on the neighborhood Facebook page post a video bragging on his kids. . One kid was driving the 4 wheeler pulling another young kid on an inflatable raft. They were going way too fast and weaving along the road. No helmets.
Did I do stupid stuff as a kid? Of course. But if my parents had caught me I might have gotten more injuries from them than an accident. This parent was just laughing.

Last summer I was on my ATV, riding the top of my pond dam when I saw something that caught my eye. I stopped and put the ATV in reverse and began slowly backing up.
Somehow I let the bike get too far to the backside of the dam and before I knew what was happening, I was going off the back side. Still not sure how I got off and clear of the bike before it began rolling downhill.
Scary as hell for sure. I got really lucky and learned an important lesson at the same time.

Sad day man... sorry.
I had to ban my son and his friend from our king quad over the weekend. It's a 750, so it has lots of power. My kids are aware of my hard rules on speed and aggressive driving, but he let his friend drive and failed to tell him the rules. Tracked them down in the truck, made them follow me home, keys taken, and hopefully lesson learned.
Life 360 app helps keep an eye on your kids driving habits, tip for any parents reading.

I have a friend who lost an 18yo son headed to West Point. Really sad to see a young life ended. I think of all the dumb stuff we did on those and how we got hurt here and there and it makes me shudder that could've been me and my friends. I'm grateful the Lord takes care of drunks and fools some days.

Can you share any details on how the accident happened?

I don’t know many details. Hunting ducks and went to go pick up some wounded that went to another pond. He was alone on a levee when four wheeler flipped so no details about how it happened.

Sadly this should be on the OT, I’m sure all the OB baws can operate a 4-wheeler fine.

My longtime dental hygienist and good friend lost her husband when his rolled on him at his lease in Texas a few years ago. So many of the places we all hunt are not all that close to trauma level medical care either.

Just a few stats...
135,000 people are injured every year due to ATV accidents.
Over 700 people are killed in these accidents every year.
Approximately 1/3 of the people killed in ATV accidents each year are under the age of 16.
Stay safe out there.

People down voting haven't seen a kid killed, paralyzed or suffering a brain injury from a 4wheeler accident. Once you do, you will understand they aren't toys.
I grew up in the era of 3 wheelers which evidently were deemed "too dangerous", but now I think because they were lighter they may not have been as dangerous as today's 4wheelers. As I mentioned before, I did plenty of stupid things on them in my youth but I got lucky to not seriously hurt myself.
Never amazes me the people that let their kids play on 4wheelers on a neighborhood street. They will lose to any other vehicle or object they run into.

Not to derail, but add golf carts to that.

I’m viewed as the “get off my lawn” guy in my neighborhood for posting about people letting their (sometimes very young) kids tootle around driving golf carts, usually full of other young kids on our neighborhood streets. Against the law, in addition to being stupid.
