I’m personally against it. I watch some of the elite series guys and all they do is look down the entire fricking day.

If you want to use in practice that’s cool but during the tournament it should be illegal.

Thoughts?

Whatever our opinions are on the matter is moot because there is too much money in it for the sonar manufacturers for them to allow it to be banned. They are huge sponsors of both the events themselves and the individual anglers.

As long as everyone is playing on the same field with the same rules, the best anglers will separate themselves.

That this is dumb.

I've had it for 3 seasons now. While a fantastic tool for crappie, when I bass fish, I don't even use it.

Besides, it's available for everyone. Why not ban side imaging as well?

There is a time and place, but it’s a huge tournament difference maker. Deep water bass fishing is put on another level.

As long as it's available to everyone, why ban it? You still have to be able to figure out the right bait and technique then execute that as well as actually hook and land the fish.

I agree to some point but the best anglers are not all proficient with ffs.

If people can’t see that this is taking the sport out of fishing and the magic of catching big fish , then you really aren’t a true fisherman or don’t do it enough to have a conversation

Guys that are top FFS guys like milliken, josh Jones fishing and a few others have these things dialed in to where they are catching bass that are once in a lifetime fish EVERY TRIP.

He has hundreds of double digits in the past two years and also 3 to 5 fish over 14 pounds.

Catching that type of fish that consistently can be attributed to FFS only. I’m not against josh Jones using them in his line of work and he has found a way to make a damn good living at it.

It should not however be used in tournaments or even practice for them in my opinion.

They don’t let you talk to guys for information and they shouldn’t let you use a machine that shows you the exact size and location in 30-50 ft of water

I've had it for two years. I've started turning it off once I find some fish as they appear to run from it or are at least more wary.

Best fisherman are gonna catch them regardless. It’s fun watching Christie with the frog today.

So who’s fault is that? While I agree that FFS does take some of the “magic” out of fishing, it still takes plenty of time and talent to get good with it. It’s a skill that can be learned and added to an already proficient angler’s repertoire. Some just don’t want to take the time to learn it.

That being said, all of tournament fishing has gotten to be too expensive. It’s nearly impossible for a young person to get into it without either some serious financial backing or going into a lifetime of debt.

The hardest part about catching fish is finding them. FFS eliminates that. Milliken, Jones and several elites are absolute masters of the technology. I think state wildlife departments are going to be the ones to halt its use, not tournament organizations that get a load of sponsor money from Lowrence, Humminbird, Garmin, et el. I can see it hurting local tournament numbers and any organization that uses co-anglers

I just don't see the justification for state wildlife departments to ban it unless its use can be correlated to a decrease in population or increase in large fish mortality (which would be insanely difficult to prove).

Illegal? Or against the rules? Don't criminalize FFS. And this whole Randy Blaukat Us against FFS is pretty silly. And a person does not have to fish a tournament. This is kind of like forcing us to use strange pronouns. There are too many tournaments anyway. I know because my brushed dock is covered upon on Saturdays.

It will not be too long from now the screen will be even more clear and precise. Where does it end. At some point the fishing will suffer to the point the average angler will quit going.

What a dumb comment. Fish can be located with any of the other forms of sonar.

It should be against the rules to use a device that you can see a fish and place a bait right in front of its face and dangle it until it bites. Regular/side imaging sonar just tells you there are fish there. This isn’t Black Bass on Nintendo
