The 5.0 is the best gas engine Ford has ever made.
Ecoboosts have had a lot of issue since inception.

I have the 5.0 in my truck I average about 17 mpg, good enough for me.

My 14 3.5 Ecoboost would fly and haul like nobody's business. Gas mileage was around 16.7 if I recall. Never had any issues up to the 80k mark. Solid truck. I miss it.

I've had both. I had a 2012 Eco. At about 145k, the engine rattled a couple of times and made me think about that timing chain problem. I've heard that Ford charges thousands to fix it. I didn't keep it long enough to find out. Traded it in at 150k miles for a 2018 5.0. I'm getting 16.5mpg city and 18.3mpg interstate/highway with 34.3x11.6" tires and Bilstein 5100 level. I've also read that the timing problem is only an issue on early production Ecos.

The 5.0 is a little more sluggish than the Eco was, but I'm more confident that it's a long term engine. I get better gas mileage both towing and in general with the 5.0 than I did with the Eco.

Wife has a 16 expedition with the 3.5 ecoboost. It’s at 48k with no issues. That thing will fly.

2017 with the 5.0 and about 25k miles. Getting about 19 hwy/16 city mpg. I know I'm at low mileage, but it has been flawless so far.

Towing.... compared to my last truck this is a man of a truck. My '06 Silverado was a pussy by comparison.

The Ecoboost engines were redesigned with the 15 model. I know plenty of people that have them with no issues. I have 2.7 EB and it's a fun truck to drive.

If you are the type to drive a vehicle for 250k I'd probably get the V8 though. I rarely drive mine much over 100k.

I had a 13 Ecoboost. Started to show signs of the timing chain issue. Took it to Ford on two separate occasions but they wouldn’t acknowledge any issues. On the third, after the 60k mark where the warranty ended, they acknowledged there could be a issue but the warranty was out and it was an estimated $7k if the timing chain was failing.

Traded in a couple of days later.

What a load of horseshite from Ford. They even had a TSB on the timing chain before the models were even rolling off the show room floor and still didn't give a shite.

I have 120k on a 2011 5.0

Only thing I've ever had to fix is the $30 oil pressure sensor.

Been great

You reminded me to add my own truck

2011 with 6.2 and 197k. Had to reprogram my transmission. Otherwise, flawless.

Just traded my 3.5 EB in with 138,000 trouble free miles. The only thing I replaced were disc pads and a battery. I just hope this 3.0 PS will hold up as well.
