Gotcha. Thanks for the feedback. I think I will just wait until more promising rain forecast.

I doubt dew is enough - I can’t find it but I read an extension service post that said if temps are above 70 to not put out Urea unless 1/4” or more of rain was forecast or it was going to be disced in.

The good news is that if your plots have already come up the dew is enough to keep them alive - you just won’t see much growth until you hit them with N.

How are your food plots looking?

I planted a little over 4 weeks ago, just ahead of a big rain but it has been bone dry since. The morning dew is keeping everything alive but my plots are a lot thinner than they should be at this point in time.

I'm in this same boat. Planted about the exact time you did. Needing this rain forecast this week to actually hit

Same here. Nothing a good rain won’t fix. Need it soon!

We didn't even disc, just bush hogged and hand spread rye grass from Lowes, didn't even fertilize. I hope we have brown food plots all year.

Most of the feeders also aren't working, between that and acorns being heavier than normal, maybe we'll put more effort into it next year, personally I'm more than happy hunting in the woods.

I planted September 28th and my plots actually looks pretty damn good.

Here my rain log for the season so far
• Oct 6 – 2.10”
• Oct 18 – 0.14”
• Oct 25 – 0.30”
• Oct 26 – 2.20”
• Nov 8 – 0.40”

I hit the plots with a nitrogen heavy liquid fertilizer mix on 11/2 and will do another round this Sunday

I’m worried about not having a strong enough root structure before that freeze last week

My plots are doing fairly well, however I do things differently.

I am 100% regenerative AG, so I don't disc, I don't use herbicide and I plant with a no till drill. As a result have a large layer of "thatch" which helps protect my plants.

That being said my plots are up and green but could use some rain. I have a few fields that are half conventional tillage and half regenerative and the regenerative plots are looking a LOT better.

I plan on putting out nitrogen Sunday before the rain next week.

First round of liquid 25-0-0 went on 11/2. Sprayed the second round yesterday after taking the pictures

Damn, I'm jealous!

I'm hoping the forecasters aren't full of it and it rains at my place tonight!

This is by far the best food plot I’ve ever had.

I wish I could say it was just one thing but I did many things this year to try and improve my plot, so I’m happy it’s worked out.

Probably the biggest change is the use of liquid lime and liquid fertilizers(in addition to granulated fertilizers applied at planting). I know there are mixed opinions on them, but they really seemed to work out for me.

I’ve been pretty open in this thread with what I’ve been doing. I posted my seed mix on page 1 with explanations.

Ran soil sample and sent to LSU (results were terrible)
800lbs of triple 13 per acre at planting
5 gallons of plot start per acre at planting
2.5 gallons of 10-20-10 liquid fert per acre 1 months post germination
2.5 gallons of 25-0-0 liquid fert per acre 1 months post germination
32oz of plotboost per acre 1 months post germination
And I just did another dose of 25-0-0

Not very cost effective(only planted .5 acres like this), but my goal was to grow a magazine picturesque food plot and by God I was going to do it

What you can’t see in the picture is I have oats and clover thriving underneath all those brassica leaves

I think we got enough rain last night in Madison Parish. Our plots should really jump now.

You certainly did. I commend your efforts and research. We're still throwing out seed, at this point its just to make the deer stand out against the grass.

I don't know how much you're planting in total, but fertilizing like that in narrow strips throughout the place may be a way to compromise getting that satisfying growth and having it everywhere.

I had 1/4” at my place west of Centreville, which should be enough to dissolve the Urea I put out last weekend and get things rolling.

My forecast calls for 1” this weekend - that would be about perfect, but I’ll believe it when I actually see it in my rain gauge
