Thanks. Looks like I have more work to do.
The hogs got into my plots last year and knocked down the Milo, millet and sunflowers. I couldn’t drill through the debris so I burned them off for the first time ever. I think that stimulated the explosion of the Japanese stilt grass.

Unfortunately burning is the perfect site prep for stiltgrass and cogongrass alike.

As others have said (1) after Oct. 1 (army worms!) and (2) shortly before rain. I've waited until mid-November before... but that brings its own set of problems.

And Sericia Lespedeza when burning at the wrong time of the year. Burning late season typically reduces grass species. Chemical control and late season fires can control the stiltgrass. Basically, don’t let it go to seed.

Now, are both methods needed? That is another question. If other grasses and tree species are not wanted on the site, burn late season.
That is my thought and how I would approach it with my experience, but I don’t have issues with stiltgrass. Mud may have more experience with it.

Man the only thing that worked for us with cogon was spraying and turning the ground with a deep turn plow. We fought that mess for years and finally had to get some professional knowledge. I don’t wish that shite in anyone.

Going to spray gly this weekend if I get a break in the rain. We haven’t planted shooting lanes in ages. Annual mowing has selected for clump grasses that don’t do anything for deer.

I’m planning on going cut and chop next weekend.

Going to hunt the velvet weekend afterwards and may throw my seed out then. October weekends are full of soccer and homecoming shenanigans so I’ll be doing single day hunts and won’t have time to plant.

Looks like a cool front coming up with Monday and Tuesday getting low as 60 both nights May be tempting to get seed in the grown if some rain pops up.

feels great outside, but no rain in the forecast for at least 10 days.

I'd just bushhog, wait a week, spray, wait 2-3 weeks, then plant.

But thats just me

Not a single day of rain forecasted in the 10 day. It’s been 3 weeks now without rain

Planted a 8x16 spot of Fall zinnias in my yard 3 weeks ago and they have gotten destroyed by army worms.

Do not plant in september. I MAY plant 2nd/3rd week oct if multiple days of rain in forecast. If not will be first of november like last 2 years. Planting early now is too hot, risk drought, and even worse army worms destroying it

All of my plots have been bush hogged. They spread lime today and yesterday.

Last application of my 3 ton/acre prescription. 3 years in the making lol.

Spraying this weekend or next week. With the rain forecast so far out I’ll probably wait another 7-10 days

Did you get your lime from the Co-op in Woodville? Did they spread it for you? I’m curious what they’re charging.

Yes. Last year it was like 700-800 bucks for the full cart.

Haven’t got the bill yet from this year.
