What are you guys planting this year? Where are you getting seed? is there a place in SELA or SWMS that does custom seed bags?

I'm planting September 15-Oct 15 (probably October)
Ladino Clover 4-5lbs/acre
Winter Wheat 40-60lbs/acre
Gulf Rye Grass 10-15lb/acre

maybe a little crimson too...We had a biologist come out and give us this custom formula and some stuff to plant for turkey and dove next year.

Here is a thread where a few were talking about it:

OB thread

I'm planning on planting:
Oats
Wheat
Brassicas
Peas.

I'll be planting it in a couple of weeks most likely.

ETA: I'm in NC MS and I buy my seed from a small seed & feed store up here.

One more edit: I have some more lime that I need to get put out also.

I would recommend against rye grass, unless you want a plot of only rye grass in a few years.

Similarly, if ryegrass was planted there previously, you’ll have more than you want already and need not add more.

Gamberi farm supply in Natchez does custom blends how you want. That’s where I get my plot seed from

Schexnayder & Sons in Erwinville does custom blends or they have their basic & premium house blends. I think the premium adds turnip, radish, etc to the oat/wheat/clover basic mix. Buy it by the bag or pallet of bags, or bulk sacks.

Last year I did 50/50 oats and wheat. Mixed in a blend from Atwoods called Big Sexy that added some broadleaf stuff like turnips or radishes to it. Turned out pretty well.
Will likely do something similar this year.

I wonder when people plant this early is it for bow season?

I don't plant until the first weekend of October so my food plot is just a few inches tall and nice and tender when gun season starts. Plus, there is generally more rain then so you don't have to worry about looking at a dry field for weeks waiting on rain.

This won't be for bow.

I planted last year in Oct. I was later than I wanted because I couldn't find implements for my tractor. It was all pretty stunted growing since we get colder earlier here.

Gotta get those iron clay peas in the dirt around mid September so you can stick that 3 pointer on the opener.

Stay away from oats wheat and rye, Our soils just don't promote good nutrition transfer in those.

Clover (red and white)
Greens (turnip and collard)
Chickory
Iron clay peas
Purple hull peas
Radish

Are yall confusing iron and clay with Austrian Winter peas?

We always plant Iron and clay in the spring, our are knee to waist high right now.

We have never planted them for the fall, I don't think they are cold tolerant.
