Josh goins wants his membership to write letters to Jeff Landry and the state elected officials to gain some momentum for his cause.....those same state officials shot down HB 391 causing the fisherman and some hunters not to have access to some prime hunting and fishing areas...you talk about pissing into the wind thats what he's trying to do for sure....FFL is dead...the outfitters in KS and OK love La hunters....we are treated like kings and will return year after year...no mo high dollar Gueydan/Kaplan/Lake Arthur/Pecan Island/Klondike/Mallard Bay over priced leases by greedy landowners..and greedy oil companies...the Oilfield service companies which no longer exists here in La drove the lease prices out of site. The ones that do exist in Texas love OK/KS outfitters...of course the price of oil continues to be below $60/bbl you can bet those rigs in MIDLAND/NEW MEXICO will start being laid down and fewer oil service companies means less demand for KS/OK hunting which will keep OK/KS outfitters prices down....

Yeah, saw they were after Ralph Abraham as well.

I wonder if those dumbasses know that guy wants to dispense of all of the federal public lands...you know, like Tensas, Cameron Prairie, Lacassine, and Sabine? Felsenthal?

You know, places known for their hunting opportunities?

It was a response I received from Abraham regarding the legislation proposed by Senator Mike Lee last summer/fall.

WTF are you talking about?

yea I'm sure Missouri would catch so much crawfish when its going to be 10 degrees next week

Also I don't think Missouri farmers are worried about crawfish when they can grow 80 bushel beans, 200 bushel corn, and 2.5 bale cotton to rotate with their rice.

He essentially said that many of our federal lands are in disrepair, provide limited access to the public, and adversely affect private property rights. He says that the federal government has put an emphasis on land acquisition instead of maintenance, and that one solution to all of this is to convey lands to state, local, and tribal governments.

Goes on to say that the National Parks must be preserved, but that we need to have a decreased federal presence on lands that have little value to citizens. He does not define what "value" means, nor who he thinks should determine what is valuable and what is not.

What bothers me is how uninformed his opinion is. What percentage of our federal lands are inaccessible? Very little of what we have in Louisiana is inaccessible. How is it impacting private property rights?

This guy is looking at the entire country instead of his own backyard, where the people who elected him hunt and fish.

Not so fast Cowboy, it has been my experience at Sabine NWR and Lacassine NWR that the caretakers see hunters as a chore to be dealt with. Lacassine and Sabine are very limited to where you can hunt by design. Sabine NWR is +120,000 ac and limits the hunting area to less than 5,000. When Lacassine acquired Streeters, it was prime time for a year or two until they deemed it the lottery area. I spoke to the Sabine manager about them allowing the ditch next to headquarters as a kayak launch one day. He told me that area was exclusively a bird watching area and wasn't big enough for both. Typical LAZY government employees are in charge and they like it like it is.

First, neither is inaccessible. That was his argument, correct?

Second, they are National Wildlife Refuges. Do you know what refuge means? Do you understand the purpose and original intent of the National Wildlife Refuge System? A maximum of 40% can be opened for hunting (established by law), and the original act that established the system did not even include provisions for hunting. In fact, they were stricken from the language.

Also, you can hunt on 34k acres according to the Sabine NWR webpage (~27% of the area), so I'm not sure where you are gettimng 5k.

You can’t access your number legally, no way. After Rita they left the main canal closed; did not clean it to reduce access. Access on lacassine for duck hunting it the pipeline canal and streeters (lottery only). Access is the big deal on these NWR but I’ll throw in under staffed also.
Tax remetances to foriegn country’s at 50% and use that in Merica.

You can't read, can you? It's not my number, it's straight from the Refuge website.

I even measured it on Google Earth, and got almost 28k acres with a rough drawing. Maybe accessing it is an issue due to lack of maintenance(I haven't hunted there in years), but don't come in here bitching about hunting acreage and then calling me out for the numbers. What are you calling the main canal? Beach or Central? Because I've been down Central since Rita. Hell, since Ike even.

Again, look at the purpose of that land. It's not intended to be wide open to recreational use.

I’m almost 100% positive your number is correct. Go look up the hunt unit maps and then measure on google earth.

shite just Unit E where I mainly hunt is about 5000 or so
