To deteriorate the rice straw and keep weed growth under control. It also creates vast amounts of invertebrates for waterfowl which they need as much as grain. Study duck biology.

2.. so they are manipulating their fields to hold waterfowl..isn't that what you are against?

none of this has anything to do with normal ag practices just for attracting and holding waterfowl
there are tons of fields flooded north of you (soybeans, rice, even milo) that are flooded after harvest and keeping weeds out of them or trying to degrade the straw is the last thing flooding is used for nowadays
they are flooded because some duck hunter pays a farmer to flood it for them
the day after duck season is over, the draining process begins
none of these are "normal agriculture practices" anymore
maybe back before we had advanced herbicides and genetically modified crops (RoundUp ready) but not now

I hunted them a few times in the past. One year I had 200 acres with just my blind in the center. It wasn’t what I like to do. The only time they’d come during the day was in bad weather. I rather hunt in niec weather and see all the colors on the birds in the sun. That right; it’s excellent habitat for ducks. Not so much for hunters. ??

If those guys up north want to harvest their corn then flood it; it’s perfectly fine with me. Oh; on another point for all you experts. Do you know Missouri farms 250K acres of rice? ??

the ducks were using your crawfish fields to roost in not feed
they like open water to roost in
they also roost in the gulf of Mexico or the middle of lake pontchartrain or the ms river
none of which I would call excellent duck habitat

Old school thought.

Not at all related to agriculture.

Can someone clear up what the argument is again?

No they don't. They had a little over 200k this year and that's a big year for them. Last year they had 180k

If its 1 crop of rice, no crawfish, that field is probably getting tilled in the fall
If its 2nd cropped and cut in the mud the farmer is probably going to hold the rain water to buffalo it over the winter

Ducks are a natural resource that’s supposed to be shared by all,
So I keep hearing the repetition of this mantra "resources to be shared by all" and man I gotta say it's cringeworthy. Makes the FFL sound like such a whiny bunch of socialist students from Evergreen State University. 'EVERYBODY SHARE THE RESOURCES!' Its getting sad.
The truth is most of that group has not killed ducks in 15 years and it's because of their inability to adapt. Now all of a sudden someone has built an avenue for them to point a finger and blame the north instead of their own strategical shortcomings or general laziness. You realize there is no endgame with that group. Just a blame game for as long as you can hang in there but there are no actual measurable positive benefits for yourselves coming down the chute.

I think the large amounts of ducks in the 90s ruined duck hunting. Duck boners drug bottom and caused erosion and habitat degradation

You know how this makes you look now? Goes to show you you know nothing about crawfish ponds. Y’all are so schooled on the subject. LMAO

I’m choking laughing your post.

Of course dude. Unless they’re shot out.
Posted on 1/11/19 at 7:11 pm to choupiquesushi
Dude, I don’t care about hunter success. I don’t hunt ponds. Just so they have them to feed at night is all I care about.
