Me and buddy were hauling arse down a creek. We were coming around a bend and this guy was laying wood to girl in a lounge chair on a pier. They didn't throw rocks but the girl did wave and guy didn't miss a stroke

40-50 yards, you're good

40-50 feet, you're pushing it.

I don't think you did anything wrong. Sounds like he was just being a dick.

I usually let that stuff fly. BUT ONE TIME....I'm fishing a reef in the middle of BSL catching a few but slow. I'm soaking a croaker on bottom when this slap nutts starts trolling close. I pay no mind till he HOOKS MY F*^%+?# LINE.

eleventy billion miles of water and that dude hooks my line. He knew he messed up but I layed it on thick anyway.

I was white perch fishing one time up in your area and some dude kept inching closer until he finally threw his jig a little too far and it landed in my boat and got hung up on some rods...

I just smiled and said "here, let me get that"...then I whipped my knife out and cut his line with him sitting there watching...

he was smart enough not to press his luck and left without even asking for his bait...

I can't stand people who need to be within casting distance. Plenty of water, go somewhere else. The exception is schooling fish. We get big schools of hybrids and white bass here and the action top water is awesome. May have 12 boats all fishing same school. People get close. Sometimes when landing a fish and wind is moving it's hard to manage the trolling motor too. It happens. However...

This one fella would wait to see us on a school and cone screaming in with outboard going right up to school and push emdown. Politely told him that if he went upwind of school and killed motor and drifted in they would hang around longer. He keeps doing it. Finally 3 schools later hes so close he casts across the line of my back deck angler. After getting untangled I told him maybe it was better if he called it a day or at least stay beyond casting distance. Since we had drifted apart 20 yards or so he asked if that was far enough. I answered by bouncing a 1 oz slab off his outboard "nope!" He cranked and went home. We limited shortly there after.

The problem with the boat shows that chase schooling sand bass is that they don't care if you were on a spot fishing for largemouth bass first - they will descend on the spot like locusts and fish until the schooling stops. But, I think that it is stupid to get territorial in that situation so I join in the fun. I keep a rod rigged with two small spoons that I'll cast into a school of sand bass. Guaranteed doubles every cast.

We were killing the specks at enstar (platform near last island) guy comes up and anchors right where we were casting. I yelled WTF...he replied "we came a long way to catch fish". I tied on an old Topwater bait and broke it off on his anchor rope.

So basically you punished him by giving him a free top water bait?

I hope he hooked himself. Saltwater fishermen are assholes. You would be amazed at how many will get on plane when leaving a spot surrounded by boats, will run right where you are casting, won't give you a wide berth, etc. They don't care about etiquette. When I go freshwater fishing I am shocked by how considerate most fishermen are.

An air boat flew between me and another boat last week and ran through the grass we were fishing at Toledo. They are people everywhere that are inconsiderate.
I saltwater fish a lot. The biggest offenders I see there are guides pulling into your space to see what you are catching on.

People I fish with have done that before and I'm embarrassed by it.
No one likes you invading their space when they are on fish...

Good point...i see this a lot with guides out of cocodrie

I am the type that sees tons of boats fishing an area and likes to try other areas. So many people are member of the bent rod fishing club that I think they see a guy reel in a fish and they have to stop and fish on top of them. When i see a boat coming i will not reel in a fish

I'll just mark the spot to try out later and keep moving.

Saltwater fishermen are a-holes.

I went fishing with a new boat owner one time that was a friend of a friend. He had no water etiquette, drove too close to other fishermen, ignored no wake signs, and one time basically drove his boat up to the bank where a bunch of people were bank fishing because he saw they were catching.

I was really shocked that no one fired a shot off at us as bad as it was. I got up early on Sunday and left, as I didn't want to be on his boat pushing my luck the next day.

A friend and I joked that we needed to act like we don't know each other...one pulls up too close to the other with lots of boats around and we start arguing....then fire a shotgun. Maybe then people will say "damn I need to quit crowding people...they shooting at people over here"

I seriously grew eyes in the back of my head that trip. The guy was a complete arsehat behind the boat wheel. The bank fishing guys had vehicles, of the large-rimmed variety, that most likely contained weapons, and they were pretty pissed off.

When I fish I am the captain prob 98% of the time. I cringe when someone else gets too close or wakes another fishermen...sometimes you can't help it but I will idle away from boats and not throw a wake until i am clear.

The bad thing is people that are this stupid don't read this board. Sounds like all you guys know how to handle yourselves on the water, but some people don't have a clue.

Sounds like you were far enough away, OP.

I have problems with yakers in Florida. They come right up to our docked boat and start casting right next to it (1-2'). I politely ask them to not cast so close to the boat so they don't chip our paint ($100,000 paint job). Most understand, but some don't listen. If they don't leave, I turn on the motors and blow them 20-30' away. Sometimes they still don't leave and move to the bow of our boat. That's when I hit them with the bow thruster.

There are good and bad fisherman, but I would never throw rocks at them. Besides, throwing rocks from a boat is bad luck. Almost as bad as having bananas.
