I was out of state during the pirogue build, wish I could have done it.

I was supposed to drive down for that, but unfortunately I had an issue at work where I couldn't get off.

I was around for all of those plus the kayak fishing tournament that turned into a monsoon and drinking party and the SD pheasant hunt in2014. Lots of great memories over the years.

Fish was such a generous person and often times went out of his way to help people. I had him build me a "mini-pirogue" that is 4ft long and 100% to scale. I set it up for eating gatherings during the holidays and crawfish boils to store paper towels, utensils, eating trays, paper plates, drinking cups, ziplock bags, trash bags, etc. Friends and family are always fascinated with the craftsmanship and miniature size.

I witnessed the peak of humanity with the EJW fundraiser.

4LSU2 - I'm guessing his kids are close to graduating HS or entering college ?
I'm in Funroe 2-3x's per year for work and get a tear in my eye when driving by Bayou Desiard Golf & CC

Still sitting in my garage primed white. Use it every once in a while.

FF was a great human being. Despite his health problems he built and donated a pirogue to the benefit auction for Josey during his battle with cancer. Josey told his wife he was giving half of what it brought at the benefit to the single mom of a 12 tear old girl he dud not know who was fighting cancer. Smackover Hog generously paid $2400 for it. Josey died 9 days before the benefit . That mom was shocked to get $ 1200 from a stranger , Joey's widow, after what she had been through. It was paying forward Fish fighter's initial act of kindness.

I am so glad I attended the build. Fish was an amazing person and so willing to help his legacy certainly lives on.
Interestingly my hunting camp isn't far from Monroe and I was talking with two members a few months ago and somehow Josey, his family and the fundraiser with the pirogue came up when they saw me out in mine working on a beaver dam. They recognized the style of pirogue and remembered it from the fundraiser. That night is still talked about in Monroe which really blew me away.
Long live the OB! Oh and I still have my coozie!

I mistakenly read “Fist Fighting Pirogue Build!” Imagine my disappointment when I clicked in.

I was in funroe several years ago to officiate a playoff game and after we arrived crew went and did our customary arrival walk through of field.
I see a guy looking at me (which is not unusual, it is incredibly rare for me to show up somethere and NOT know someone - but I did not recognize him) and finally he comes up to me and asks where we were from and I said BR.
Right away - he chimes in "I sat near ya'll at the banquet and offered ya'll a place to stay so y'all wouldn't have to drive all the way back that night" I laughed and said we should have taken you up on that offer, I knew you looked familiar but couldn't place you.
He introduced me to several people and they all knew Josey several were at fundraiser.

The benefit was amazing. Met so many OB members and families all with a heart for others in need.
The fish fighter pirouge build is a core memory for myself and my boys. He and his wife opened theor home to us. I wish I still had my boat. It was a blast to fish and duck hunt out of.
The SD hunt was a blast and super successful. Still have a little chuckle whenever I pass Henrietta.
Handful of other events like Hog hunts, offshore trips, tailgates, meeting to coordinate donations post he flood of 2016, a bachelor party, etc. For an old boy from the LP now in TX it has been great being able to enjoy ties back home.
