How in the world did you find land in that part of the state? I'm jealous, I've been looking in that area for a good while. Not very much comes up for sale around there and if it does it is usually very large acreage with lots of zeros in the price. We are actually going to look at a place on the water in Riviera this weekend, I think we are done with Rockport. Great deer btw.

This ranch was bought by my grandfather 33 years ago. We hunted it a few times in my teens and my dad doesn’t give two shits about deer. He’s a cowboy and likes to rope and I liked to chase ducks so my grandfather leased it for $3000 a year for a long time.

We always had 1 blind on the place for the grandsons to hunt(me and my brother). Fast forward to around 2009 and I drove from North Carolina to hunt because a buddy was begging me to bring him. I hadn’t killed a deer off this place since 1993 and killed a little buck and have been hooked since.

My grandmother is still alive and she divided the place to the 4 siblings 7 to 8 years ago. Between myself, dad, and brother we have managed to get 75% of the ranch. My uncle owns 25% in between our piece. We let him run cattle on our part and we hunt the whole place.

We got the last piece last year and it was in terrible shape so we had a good amount of dozer work done and set up blinds around a year ago.

Because it’s been all family we haven’t had to finance anything and do lump sum payments yearly to pay off the land with no interest.

Edit: My wife isn’t a big fan of this

Great to hear it is staying in the family, our family land is in Atascosa county, there was some divided off about 30 years ago through a divorce, my brother and I have managed to buy back most of what was lost. Fun place to get away to and we have some large neighbors, most of which do not hunt. We are going to make a run at trying to manage it with a year around feeding program and selective harvesting, we'll see how that goes. If we end up buying that place in Riviera I'll trade ya some ducking hunting trips for a Nilgai

Is that a franchi momentum elite? I think it have damn near that exact same setup. Silencer and all.

Nice deer. So far I've been skunked this year.

Pretty buck! Grats on the kill. You’re more patient than 90% of the people I know but it seems to pay off.

Man, everytime you post with pics I get pumped. That piece y'all have is absolutely wild. The back story makes it even better.

I don't remember off hand, do y'all ever take any nilgai?

Yes we have a good amount of Nilgai and a ton of other critters that could walk out.

I’ve seen the following things here:

Scimitar oryx
Waterbuck
Fallow
Axis
Black Buck
Nilgai
Some type of ram

The axis, black buck and nilgai have been here forever. The rest of the stuff was brought in by a bank that was leasing the ranch next to us and they turned a bunch of stuff loose to let clients kill it but it’s low fence

The axis and black buck I only see every few years and haven’t seen an axis in probably 5 to 7 years but the hunters who leased the place shot a monster about 20 years ago.

This bull is from this afternoon.
