Hi-Point. Any reviews?

Just kidding.

Got an M&P Shield in 9mm. Headed to the range to put 3 boxes through it. Have about 25 long guns but its my First handgun other than a Rough Rider .22. Feels good.

I like the .40 cal myself.

Though, I want to buy a Para Ordance one day. Just can't justify $1,200 on a hand gun, even a 1911.

9mm makes so much more sense for the real world. But to each their own.

The 1911's are really nice but I can't keep a thousand dollar heirloom quality gun under my truck seat.

Not doubting this is true but jw. A 40 has more stopping power right? Isn't that the point of a handgun?

More stopping power? That's debatable based on everything I saw

Been scanning some articles after this thread. FBI going back to 9mm. Something about less recoil faster aiming

Congrats. I haven't met a person who a Shield didn't naturally point well for. That means a hell of a lot when SHTF. Slim and reliable too. For some reason, the shorter mags feel much better to me (even though I have a wide hand), so I carry with them

No, not even close.

Unless you want to get up to a .44mag a pistol does not have "stopping/knockdown" power.

Have to have a long gun for that.

I picked this up for $100 the other day from a guy at work. Don't know much about them, but I think they're sort of a Glock trainer (.22). Maybe a pos, but google says retails is over 300.
Anyway, its fun to shoot and pretty accurate. First auto I've owned.

9mm, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP all pretty much do the same thing. One is light and fast, one is heavy and slow, and the third splits the difference.

40 S&W is a high pressure round by design (basically a permanent +p) so it has an increased slide velocity. This increased slide velocity causes the "snap" some people have described. It also causes the gun to wear out sooner after 1000s of rounds (although it's doubtful any person would ever get them to this point).

I choose 9mm for these reasons:

1. Cheapest ammo (across the board)
2. Higher magazine capacity (in the same sized magazine)
3. Faster follow-up shots
4. Lighter felt recoil

If the difference in foot-pounds of energy is relatively small, it will make no difference at all in the real world. To me at least, a higher magazine capacity is superior to a bullet with a marginally higher velocity or marginally higher muzzle energy. Hunting is a different story... But when shooting 2-legged predators, I feel 9mm wins in service cartridges (the big 3).

Getting my first in the next couple weeks. Going with a S&W .38 revolver to keep in the car, then I'll set my sights on a nice 1911 in the future.

Not really. You can buy 9mm loads that have more muzzle energy than most common .40 and .45. It's all a wash in reality

Also stopping power doesn't exist
